What’s happening in Philly this weekend: Mar. 30-Apr.1

Events Running Through the Week

1. Philly Celebrates Jazz

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Friday, April 30th

Philadelphia is one of the signature cities that merges art, music, culture, fashion, and entertainment seamlessly. Through the entire month of April, The City of Brotherly Love will be hosting several events celebrating the wonderful genre of Jazz. There will be live performances, discussions, parties and several social gatherings.

2. School of Rock

Where: Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St.
When: Runs through Sunday, April 1st

Speaking of entertainment, the Academy of Music will be bringing the powerhouse smash School of Rock to your doorsteps this weekend. Called an “an inspiring jolt of energy, joy and mad skillz!” by Entertainment Weekly, this musical will make you laugh and cheer all night.

3. Philadelphia PHLASH Downtown Loop Returns

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Sunday, December 30th

With everything from museum events to cultural attractions taking place in Center City, getting around can sometimes be a hassle. This week the Philadelphia PHLASH Downtown Loop returns. On Thursday, March 29th rides will be free. Regularly, the loop stops at hotspots such as the Philadelphia Zoo, Reading Terminal Market, Shops at Liberty Place, Barnes Foundation and much every 15 minutes, from 10 a.m. –6 p.m.

4. Sacred Lands

Where: Paradigm Gallery + Studios, 746 S. 4th St.
When: Runs through Saturday, May 19

Drew Leshko has recreated some of the historic and memorable structures in Fishtown for this amazing artistic showcase. Leshko’s 1:12 dollhouse and three-dimensional replicas Kensington Soup Society, Penn Treaty Metals, and the Edward Corner Marine Merchandise Warehouse. These hand-crafted and painted sculptures are something you don’t want to miss.

5. Walls Make Good Neighbors

Where: Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave.
When: Friday, March 30th-Sunday, April 8th

From miniature to massive, the list is jumping to one of the most well-known institutions in the city. Eastern State Penitentiary will be hosting Pop Up Museum: Walls Make Good Neighbors for ten days. Many of the antique photos, newspapers, artifacts, collectibles, and more will be on display for the first time all year. Come find the hidden gems before they go back in the annals of the archives.

6. The Brewer’s Plate 

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, March 30th, 7:30PM

This Friday Night at the Kimmel Center The Brewer’s Plate will be the main attraction. Chefs, farmers, distillers, wineries, breweries, and more will be on full display at this libation and food sampling event. This party will have plenty of the local food and beverages, live music, and many fun activities.

7. Greg Proops

Where: Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St.
When: Friday, March 30th & Saturday, March 31st, 7:30PM &10PM

Comedian Greg Proops will be taking over the Helium Comedy Club for three total nights this week. This Thursday the former Who’s Line Is It Anyway? performer will be recording his “The Smartest Man In The World” podcast live. Then stop by the venue the next two nights to see his engaging standup routine.

8. Ali Siddiq

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Thursday, March 29th-Saturday, March 31st

Punch Line Philly is always one of the signature places to go for great comedy in the city. This weekend is no different.  HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Live from Gotham and seasoned Comedy act Ali Siddiq will be performing on the Fishtown location’s stage.

9. Corey Holcomb

Where: Tower Theatre, S. 69th St. and Ludlow St.
When: Friday, March 30th, 8PM

The comedy lineup on this list ends at the Tower Philly this weekend. Hosted by renowned and famed comedian Sheryl Underwood, Corey Holcomb will be performing in Philadelphia this Friday night. The comedian’s 5150 Show will also feature Chico Bean.

10. Decibel Metal & Beer Fest

Where: The Foundry, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Friday, March 30th-Sunday, April 1st.

The official Decibel Metal & Beer Festival officially goes full-throttle this Saturday. However, there will be a pre-fest event this Friday night. Come to The Foundry this weekend for amplified music and a wide selection of breweries on hand. The live music will have the place rocking and the brews will be there to cap off your night.

11. Fight Night

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Friday, March 30th, 7:30PM

When you think of places to go in the city for live boxing The Fillmore Philadelphia isn’t the first venue that comes to mind. Well, readjust your notions because this Friday night will be Fight Night at the concert hub. Come out for a night of hard-hitting blows and thunderous entertainment.

12. Hop to the Top Easter Egg Hunt

Where: One Liberty Observation Deck, 1650 Market St.
When: Saturday, March 31st, 10AM & 1PM

Can you think of a better way to spend Easter weekend with your family than taking in the scenic views of the city? One Liberty Observation Deck will be hosting an Easter egg hunt, have prizes, candy, and so much more. This is a bring-your-own-basket event that towers over the city.

13. Hop-A-Long Trail

Where: Franklin Square, 200 N. 6th St.
When: Saturday, March 31st, 11AM-1PM

Franklin Square will have a unique and new Easter scavenger hunt this Saturday morning and afternoon. Children 10 and under will get a map, “carrot cards” and an Easter Egg box. They will team up to find their way through the square while picking up eggs along the way. There will be plenty of family-friendly activities and events throughout the day.

14. Stenton Easter Egg Hunt

Where: Stenton Park Playground, 4601 N. 18th St.
When: Saturday, March 31st, 1PM-3PM

Stenton Avenue will be having their annual Easter egg hunt this Saturday. The gardens of the historic park grounds will be flourishing with happy families all day. There will be plenty of egg dyeing, chocolates, activities, games, crafts, and historical lessons.

15. African American History & Culture Showcase

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Saturday, March 31st-Sunday, April 1st

This free admission event will be a traditional celebration like no other. The 2018 African American History & Culture will be an expo full of music, live performances, screenings, Q&As, discussions, and more. There will plenty of exhibits displaying the storied history and landmarks of black history in this country.

16. Game Masters

Where: The Franklin Institute, 222 N. 20th St.
When: Saturday, March 31st-Monday, September 3rd

Game Masters will give you a behind-the-scenes and interactive look at some of your favorite video and arcade games. Over 30 game designers will be on display and will be playable at this one-of-a-kind exhibit. There will also be several in-depth glimpses into how these famed games came to life. 17. The Selena Experience

Where: TLA, 334 South St.
When: Saturday, March 31st, 9PM

NYC-based live band Genessa & The Selena experience comes to Philadelphia this Saturday night. The fashion, music, and memory of the legendary Latina icon, Selena will come to life right before your eyes. Come hear the rhythmic beats and amazing music of this icon performed by this world-traveling band.

18. Easter Promenade

Where: The corner of Passyunk Avenue/South Street down to Headhouse Square (2nd Street)
When: Sunday, April 1st, 12:30PM

The South Street Headhouse Square Easter Promenade takes place this Sunday. This is one of the most anticipated events of Easter weekend each year. The Philadelphia Freedom Band will be performing. There will be a bunny hop, Mr. and Mrs. Cottontail will be taking pictures with the kids, a best-dressed contest, food and drinks, and more.

19. Museum Sundays

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy & Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy
When: Sunday, April 1st, 10AM

This Sunday will be PECO Free First Sunday: Spring Awakening at the Barnes Foundation. There will be plenty of activities including gallery stroller tours, storytime, paper flower making, live music, and more. At the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it will be a pay-what-you-wish day. There will be an April Fool’s event and be sure to check out the Design in Revolution: A 1960s Odyssey exhibit.

20. Flyers vs. Bruins

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, April 1st, 12:30PM

The Wells Fargo Center will be open for business this Easter Sunday as the Philadelphia Flyers will be taking on the Boston Bruins. The midday matchup kicks off the last week of the Flyers regular season. Come out and cheer on the home squad as they look to end the year on a streak.
