What’s happening in Philly this weekend: April 13-15

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and cultural places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Cinedelphia Film Festival

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Monday, April 30th

The 2018 Cinedelphia Film Festival kicks off this week! This will be a city-wide celebration of films and productions related to Philadelphia. There will be shorts, feature films, documentaries, live radio tapings, discussion panels, and Q&A groups, and more.

2. Philadelphia Furniture Show

Where: 23rd Street Armory, 22 S. 23rd St.
When: Friday, April 13th-Sunday, April 15th

Come out to the 23rd Armory Street Armory this weekend to take in the 2018 Philadelphia Furniture Show. This phenomenal interior furnishing expo will feature several artisans and handmade pieces from all around the country. There will be food and cocktails available for pay-as-you-go purchases.

3. Jane Irish: Antipodes

Where: Lemon Hill, 1 Lemon Hill Dr.
When: Runs through Sunday, June 3rd

Local artist Jane Irish will be taking over this classic two-floors of this historic structure for a one-of-a-kind art showcase. There will be several installations, fixtures, and ceramics in the 19th-century mansion’s reimagining. Irish envisions the walls, “of Lemon Hill will serve as antipodes—hemispheric opposites, each filled with her dialectical imagery of past and present, east and west, and war and peace.”

4. Snow White

Where: Arden Theatre Company,  40 N. 2nd St.
When: Runs through Sunday, June 3rd

The evil queen, the magic mirror, the poisoned apple, and the dazzling princess will all come to life like never before on the Arden Theatre Company’s stage. The production will be performed by only two actors doing their best and most creative work.

5. Tell Me On A Sunday

Where: Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Sunday, June 10th

Julia Udine will be front and center in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tell Me on a Sunday. The Walnut Street Theatre will be bursting with this phenomenal journey of a woman’s search for love in New York City. Come out to hear “Come Back With the Same Look in Your Eyes,” “Nothing Like You’ve Ever Known,” “Tell Me on a Sunday,” “Take That Look off Your Face,” and more.

6. On Your Feet!

Where: Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St.
When: Runs through Sunday, April 15th

Continuing this rundown of musicals is Broadway Philadelphia’s production of On Your Feet! Illustrating the lives of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, this musical spans from their Cuban roots to their acclaim and international success. Come see this historic couple brought to life through song.

7. PHILADANCO: Success Stories

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, April 13th-Sunday, April 15th

Local and famed dance company Philadanco will be celebrating the works and features of several alumni this weekend. Sucess Stories is a collective of the best and brightest that have come from Philadanco. The series includes Tommie Waheed Evans (Waheed Works), Iquail Shaheed (Dance Iquail), Hope Boykin (HopeBoykinDance), and Anthony Burrell (AB Dance/Breaking Barriers).

8. Philly Spring Jam

Where: The Liacouras Center, 1776 N. Broad St.
When: Friday, April 13th, 7:30PM

The Liacouras Center will be jumping with the best throwback jams in hits this Friday night. The Philly Spring Jam 2018 features Brandy, Tank, Guy w/ Teddy Riley, and 112. Come out to the local sports venue to hear some of your favorite tracks and dance the night away.

9. Cuba Festival Closing Night

Where: Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, 3680 Walnut St.
When: Friday, April 13th, 8PM

The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts has been hosting an immersive Cuban Festival for the past few weeks. This Friday night the cultural sensation comes to a close with the Chucho Valdes Trio. The six-time Grammy winner and three-time Latin Grammy winner will be offering up an Afro Cuban jazz experience like no other.

10. Franz Ferdinand 

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Friday, April 13th, 8PM

Glasglow indie rock band Franz Ferdinand will be playing The Fillmore Philadelphia this Friday night. The Grammy-nominated band released their fifth studio album titled Always Ascending in February 2018. Come hear the “Take Me Out” band this weekend.

11. Union vs. Orlando City SC

Where: Talen Energy Stadium, 1 Stadium Dr, Chester, PA
When: Friday, April 13th, 8PM

The Philadelphia Union will be taking on Orlando City SC under the Friday night lights this weekend. The one loss local team will be looking to notch their fifth win of the season against the (5-2) opponent. Bring your enthusiasm, cheers, and passion to Chester this Friday.

12. Dulcé Sloan

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Friday, April 13th, 8PM & 10:15PM and Saturday, April 14th, 7:30PM & 9:45PM

Dulcé Sloan has been a bright spot on Comedy Central’s “Best F#@king News Team” on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. She will be bringing her jokes and stage presence to Philadelphia this weekend. Come to Punch Line Philly to see this fresh face and rising star on the comedy scene.

13. Chief Keef

Where: Electric Factory, 421 N. 7th St.
When: Friday, April 13th, 8PM

Rap fans will be flocking to the Electric Factory this Friday night to see Chicago product, Chief Keef. Kanye West’s remix of Keef’s track “I Don’t Like.” Come see the “Love Sosa” act in a venue packed with all of his friends.

14. P!nk

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, April 13th, 8PM

Another big concert hitting up the city this Friday is P!nk’s Beautiful Trauma World Tour. The international pop star’s Beautiful Trauma album was a great work that was highlighted by tracks like “What About Us” and more. All the P!nk fans will be in the arena this Friday night.

15. Morris Arboretum Blossom Festival

Where: Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, 100 E. Northwestern Ave.
When: Saturday, April 14th, 10:15AM-3PM

The Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania will be hosting a Saturday of great cultural exploration. The Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival will be taking over the beautiful grounds. There will be a drumming ceremony, nature walks amongst the trees and flowers, a dressing demonstration, a samurai swordsman on the grounds, origami workshop, and more.

16. Jazz Music Jam at the African American Museum

Where: The African American Museum, 701 Arch St.
When: Saturday, April 14th, 11AM-4PM

This Saturday The African American Museum in Philadelphia will be hosting a mesmerizing musical event. Saturday is April’s Macy’s Family Fun day which means the first 250 people get in free. There will be a Jazz Music Jam which includes several music performances, workshops, and many jazz musicology instructionals.

17. DOFL Food truck Pop Up

Where: 13th St. & Spruce St.
When: Saturday, April 14th, 11AM-3PM

This Saturday Dining Out For Life will be bringing out all the stops for this surprising pop up food truck festival. The Cow and the Curd, Cupcake Carnivale and Oink and Moo BBQ, and other will be out in the streets serving their most delicious bites. Thirty-three percent of your proceeds will benefit the HIV nonprofit Action Wellness.

18. Riot Nerd Craft Bazaar

Where: District N9NE , 460 N. 9th St.
When: Saturday, April 14th and Sunday, April 15th, 12PM-5PM

Ths Saturday and Sunday at District N9NE you can find some of the rarest and mystifying collectibles and one-of-a-kind figures. The 2018 Riot Nerd Craft Bazaar will feature macabre oddities and more. This two-day pop-culture fused event will have dozens of unique vendors each day.

19. 76ers vs. Heat

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 s. Broad St.
When: Saturday, April 14th, 8PM

The process has been trusted and completed. This is Game 1 of the Eastern Conference playoffs for our beloved Philadelphia 76ers. Ben Simmons, J.J. Redick, Covington, Fultz, and more will be in action to take on the Miami Heat in front of a roaring home crowd. Come out for the first playoff action for this historic franchise in years.

20. Charlotte Cardin

Where: Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, April 14th, 8:30PM

Montreal singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin will be playing at the bar with glorious tin ceilings and the cowboy motifs this Saturday night. Come to Boot & Saddle to see the melodic performer and 2018 Juno Award “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” and “Songwriter of the Year”. The “Main Girl” performer shouldn’t be missed.

21. YFN Lucci

Where: Coda, 1712 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, April 14th 8PM

YFN Lucci has the buzz meter going his way. The Atlanta Rapper’s first studio album Ray Ray From Summerhill which peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200 Chart. The critically-acclaimed release has made  YFN Lucci one of the best up-and-coming rappers in the game.

22. Sakura Sunday 

Where: Horticulture Center, Fairmount Park, 100 N Horticultural Dr
When: Sunday, April 15th, 10AM-5PM

This Sunday the full culmination of the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival will be at Fairmount Park this Sunday. There will be an entire day dedicated to “all things Japanese, from live music, dance, and martial arts performances to fashion shows, arts and crafts, karaoke, and much more”. Bring your entire family out to this free-to-enter gathering.

23. Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival

Where: Main Street, Manayunk
When: Sunday, April 15th, 11AM-5PM

One of the most anticipated food truck festivals hits the streets of Manayunk this Sunday. Kicking off Manayunk Spring Restaurant Week, this event will have over forty food vendors ready to fulfill all of your culinary needs. Bring your appetite and wallet out for this community and belly embracing event.

24. Flyers vs. Penguins

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, April 15th, 3PM

The thrilling playoffs rundown in the City of Brotherly Love this weekend continues this Sunday. Game 3 of the playoffs will put the Philadelphia Flyers against the Pittsburg Penguins. The series did’t get off to a stellar start for the Flyers but another game in front of their home fans might just be the surge of inspiration to seize the series.
