Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Closing This Weekend: Cirque Du Soleil VOLTA

Where: The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Ave. Oaks, PA
When: Runs through Sunday, August 19th

This Sunday will be your last chance to see these incredible acrobatic feats and soaring heights. Cirque Du Soleil Volta has spectacular displays of movement, mesmerizing stunts, and so much more to offer at these majestic shows.

2. Closing This Weekend: The Oval

Where: The Oval, 2451 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Closes Sunday, August 19th

This Sunday is the closing day for The Oval. The ending loop of the parkway will say goodbye to all the food trucks, light structures, movie screenings, radio game shows, workshops, DJ dance parties, and more. Take a look at this weekend’s final events to avoid missing out.

3. Phillies Weekend

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way
When: Through Sunday, August 19th

The Phillies are second in the NL East, only behind the Atlanta Braves.  This weekend they will be hosting the New York Mets in a showdown with this National League Wast foe.  Come out to Citizens Bank Park this weekend to see the team live and in action.

4. Philadelphia Folk Festival

Where: Old Pool Farm, 1323 Salford Station Rd.  Schwenksville, PA
When: Runs through Sunday, August 19th

The Philadelphia Folksong Society presents the 57th Philadelphia Folk Festival. Throughout the weekend, folk fans in the area can partake in this amazing open-air musical event. There will be dozens of performers at this live music festival that will have crafts, kids activities, vendors, and of course exciting musical shows.

5. Mustard Seed Film Festival

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Sunday, August 19th

The 2018 Mustard Seed Film Festival will take place over the next few days. This South Asian Film Festival will have daily movie screenings, discussions, and more. This entertainment event will consist of contemporary films and documentaries. This inclusive artistic showcase will be a great way to see powerful works across a talented diaspora.

6. Movie Screenings

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, August 17th

There are several free outdoor and BYOB (bring your own blanket) movie screenings throughout the city each week. This Friday night, come out to Pennypack Park for the Pixar hit  Inside Out, The Oval for the Philly-themed boxing marvel Creed, and Dilworth Park for The Greatest Showman. That same night, The Schmidt’s Commons will be showing the murderous musical  Chicago and Clark Park will be screening Coco.

7. Wall Writers at the AAMP

Where: The African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St.
When: Friday, August 17th, 6:30PM-9PM

Wall Writers: Graffiti in its Innocence will be screened at The African American Museum in Philadelphia this Friday. Philadelphia graffiti artist Cornbread will lead a discussion after the film which highlights the rise and growth of Graffiti art in major cities like Philadelphia and New York. Don’t miss out on the great screening and artistic panel.

8. Pauly Shore

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Thursday, August 16th-Saturday, August 18th

Comedian and actor Pauly Shore will be performing for three night this week at Punch Line Philly. The 90’s superstar has countless productions on his resume including a previous reality show, Jury DutyIn the Army NowBio-Dome, Encino Man, and more. The famed act will be bringing his unique stage presence and delivery to the laugh house’s stage this weekend.

9. Dashboard Confessional and All Time Low

Where: Electric Factory, 421 N 7th St.
When: Friday, August 17th, 6PM

Radio 104.5 will be bringing Dashboard Confessional and All Time Low to the Electric Factory stage this Friday night. The entertainment venue will be filled with the alt-rock and emo faithful as the bands perform old hits and new tracks. Dashboard Confessional released their seventh studio album Crooked Shadows this year. It’s their first project in almost a decade. All Time Low’s All Time Reneage was released last year and debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200.

10. Swisher Sweets Artist Project Philadelphia Pack Night 

Where: Theatre of The Living Arts, 334 South St.
When: Friday, August 17th, 9PM

Machine Gun KellyChill Moody, Shawn Smith, and Iman will be performing at the Theatre of The Living Arts this Friday night. In its fourth year, the Swisher Sweets Artist Project Pack Nights always have an amazing lineup of surging and prominent names in Hip Hop. Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Houston are all amongst the selected cities to host the blowout party this year.

11. Obon Festival and Japanese Flea Market

Where: Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, Lansdowne Dr & Horticultural Dr.
When: Saturday, August 18th, 11AM-4:45PM

The Shofuso Japanese House and Garden will wil be hosting the 6th Annual Obon Festival this Saturday afternoon. The festival will be heralding the Japanese ritual of Obon. There will be live music, merchants, arts and crafts, and plenty of activities.  There will also be a traditional “bon” dance performed before the closing ceremonies.

12. Festival of India

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, August 18th,  12PM- 7PM

The PECO Multicultural series continues this Saturday with the annual Festival of India event. Come to the Delaware waterfront for this wonderful festival that celebrates a culture rich with beauty and a tradition. There will be authentic Indian dance, ethnic cuisine, vendors, live music, performers, and more at this free event.

13. Reggae in the Park

Where: Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, August 18th, 1PM

This Saturday afternoon the Mann Center will be transformed by the sights and sounds of reggae. The 7th Annual Reggae in the Park concert series will feature SOJA, Chronixx, Toots & The Maytals, Dexta Daps, and twenty other performers. There will be arts and crafts vendors, Caribbean & global cuisine, and much more. Children 12 & under admitted on the lawn for free with a parent.

14. 40th Street Summer Series

Where: Walnut St. and 40th St.
When: Saturday, August 18th, 6PM

University City District rotating outdoor music festival is popping up this weekend. The York Street Hustle will be playing great music and harping to music decades past with their ensemble band. Three Aksha will be the opening act. The music from both acts is a triumphant blend of all the wondrous sounds coming from various inspirations. Come out to this free event that will have food and more.

15. Union vs. New York City FC

Where: Talen Energy Stadium, 1 Stadium Dr. Chester, PA
When: Friday, August 18th, 7PM

This Saturday marks the fourth match of the month of August for the Philadelphia Union. Coming off back to back victories, the club will look to make it three in a row in front of their home fans. Bring your cheers and yells to Talen Energy Stadium this Saturday night as they take on New York City FC.

16. Miranda Lambert

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, August 18th, 7PM

Country superstar Miranda Lambert will be on the Camden waterfront this Saturday night. The 2018 Country Music Hall of Fame’s Artist in Residence will be performing at the BB&T Pavilion in front of thousands of her fans. The amphitheater will be full of sounds from any of her myriad of hits.

17. Ur Mom Is Funny

Where: Good Good Comedy Theatre, 215 N. 11th St.
When: Saturday, August 18th, 7:30PM

This Saturday night the Good Good Comedy Theatre will be hosting Ur Mom Is Funny. The third-anniversary event is one of the most unique specials comedy has to offer. Comedians will team up with their moms to duel it out with other acts in a war for the most laughs.

18. Caribbean Festival

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, August 19th, 12PM- 8PM

The 32nd Annual Caribbean Festival is this Sunday. Sponsored by PECO, The Delaware Waterfront, and others this event serves to celebrate and display the beauty and wonders of island culture. There will be live music, art, dance performances, vendors selling unique crafts and fashions, and more. Come see the skits, pageantry, and amazing sights coming from the stage.
