Injuries have devastated the Philadelphia Eagles this season and the bug just bit one more time.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is dealing with a back injury and not only is he not expected to play Sunday, he could be shut down for the rest of the year.
#Eagles QB Carson Wentz, dealing with a back issue, is not expected to play this week, sources say. Depending on the result, given the time of year, Wentz may not play again in 2018. The team is still gathering info on his health.

The Eagles have yet to confirm this report. Wentz did not practice Wednesday due to what the team called back soreness. Head coach Doug Pederson didn’t commit to Wentz playing Sunday, but also didn’t rule it out during his press conference on Wednesday. Rapoport’s report broke after the Eagles practiced.
Here were Pederson’s comments about Wentz’s injury.
“A new one: [QB] Carson [Wentz] has a little bit of back soreness, a little tightness, so we’re going to rest him today. Continue to evaluate him and make sure he’s good. But we’ll have more information on all these guys later in the week.”
As for the back issue itself, Wentz was listed on the injury report from Weeks 6-8 with back spasms. So this is something that Wentz may have been dealing with for most of the season.
“Sometimes he just gets a little sore, a little tight. Just going to rest him today and evaluate him further.”
Pederson stated that the injury did not occur Sunday.
“Nothing game-related. He’s dealt with it, and so we’re going to continue to evaluate.”
Whatever the case is, it looks like Nick Foles will be the starter heading into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. The Eagles are still in the thick of the NFC playoff race. They have to win out, while the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers have to lose once in their final three games to make the postseason.
