Just as things were starting to look better for the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen, David Robertson is now on the Injured List. Robertson’s injury is listed as elbow soreness and in a corresponding move, the Phillies have called up Drew Anderson. This news comes off the heels of a scoreless two-inning performance on Sunday in a 3-1 victory against the Miami Marlins.
Robertson was part of a larger cast out of the bullpen that had its best performance of the season. Especially Robertson, who had a 7.71 ERA entering Sunday’s game.
This now puts even more emphasis on Victor Arano’s spectacular two scoreless innings, and six strikeout, display on Sunday. Although Arano began the season in Triple A, his 2018 campaign was solid, posting a 2.73 ERA in 60 games.
The Phillies will also now rely more on Seranthony Dominguez. Despite a 6.00 ERA, Dominguez has not allowed a run in his past four outings and looks to have bounced back from his poor outing against the Minnesota Twins on April 6.
With the bullpen already thin entering the 2019 season, having one of the top arms go down is tough. The upcoming series with the New York Mets will be a test for the Phillies bullpen. Can it continue to build off of its best performance of the season?
