1. Closing Soon: Contemporary Photography Exhibition IX

Sasha Phyars-Burgess and Guanyu Xu have won the ninth annual Contemporary Photography Competition and Exhibition competition. Phyars-Burgess’ UNTITLED PART II & III (WE ALL HAVE TO MAKE COMPROMISES), is a multimedia series that explores the cultural connotations and markers that come with looking at bodies, particularly black bodies. For Guanyu Xu’s series Parallel Rooms, he photographed complex installations that he situates secretly and temporarily in his parents’ home in Beijing, China. This weekend will be your last chance to see their exquisite work at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center.

3. Black History Month Weekend Events

With the last few weeks of Black History Month winding down, several locations in Philadelphia will be continuing their celebrations throughout the weekend. PAFA opens “Awakened In You”: The Collection of Dr. Constance E. Clayton this Friday. The new exhibition will feature more than 70 works by influential African American artists. 4. Hello Dolly! at the Academy of Music

5. Symphonie fantastique with the Philadelphia Orchestra

6. Open Studio Night

This Friday night, head over to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for Open Studio Night. This annual event immerses you in the world of the institution’s undergraduate and graduate students. 7. Friday Nights at the Art Museum

The Philadelphia Museum of Art holds a special happy hour series each Friday. The gathering uniquely blends arts and music in this special clash of culture.
