Eagles-Chargers Week 9 Predictions and Best Bets

This season, the Philly Influencer staff and contributors will be giving you their predictions and best bets!

The Chargers come to town this weekend. Can the Birds ride the momentum of last week’s win against the Lions into this matchup?

Here are the staff’s predictions and best bets:

Mike Diaz (@PhillyMike):

The Eagles demolished the Lions by running the ball 46 times, which is great. The Chargers have the worst run defense in the league. The Eagles are going to run the ball all day! This should limit the amount of possessions per team and will keep the score low. We’ll take another break from determining if Hurts is the QB for the Birds next season and run run run. That said, the Chargers have more talent on both sides of the ball and should win this game. PROVE ME WRONG #EAGLES!

Chargers 24 – Eagles 20

Best Bet: under 49.5 point

Bruce Vail (@BruceJVail):

Sophomore QB Justin Herbert and the LA chargers roll into the Linc to face a sprouting Eagles team. That’s right, we beat the 0-7 Lions and are now laying our roots for winning football.

In all seriousness, this is just a mismatch. Chargers are the more talented team and that will show this Sunday. Coming off a loss to the Patriots, I believe this is the perfect spot for Herbert and company to rebound. The Eagles may put up a fight, especially in front of the home crowd, but ultimately the talent of Herbert will outshine Hurts and the Chargers roll to a W.

Best Bet: LA -2

Chris Euksuzian(@ChrisEbomb):

The Eagles are coming off a dominating win against a tamed Lions team. This win against the Lions doesn’t impress me enough to make me a believer in the Eagles. They now face a tougher opponent in the LA Chargers. The Chargers are coming off of two losses straight up and against the spread. The Chargers have more to gain from this win than the Eagles, so they can’t afford to lose this game. This could be considered a must win game for the Chargers to keep their playoff hopes alive. The biggest factor in this game is the passing game. LA should be able to win this game with their aerial attack. The Chargers are ranked 5th in the NFL in passing yards and the Eagles are ranked 27th in passing yards allowed. What makes matters worse, the Eagles are one of the worst home defenses in the league. They rank 30th in defensive DVOA for home teams. I will buy low on the Chargers with taking them to win and cover the spread.

Chargers 30 – Eagles 24

Best Bet: Justin Herbert over passing yards

Tim O’Keefe (@TKO_Picks):

This seems to be one of the more unpredictable Eagles teams I can remember.  When I’m high on them, they fall, when I’m low, they soar.  I truly don’t know what to think of this game, but I’m going to go with my gut (and hope I’m wrong).

Chargers 31 – Eagles 27

Best bet: Over 50

Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019):

The Philadelphia Eagles rolled over a bad team in Detroit last weekend, but won’t find similar luck against a solid Chargers team this Sunday. Justin Herbert needs a strong outing to get his team back-on-track and against an inconsistent Eagles defense, I expect him to do that. Nick Sirianni’s offense found success running the ball against a crappy Lions defense, but I don’t think the Chargers will concede over 200 yards, even with the Eagles at home.

Chargers 27 – Eagles 17

Best Bet: Chargers Team Total Points O 26.5 (-110)

The PI Brew (@thepibrew):

Let’s give the Eagles a slow clap. They dominated the awful Detroit Lions last week. Woopty doo! Big deal. This week the Chargers come to town and I don’t think things will play out like they did last week. The Chargers are coming off a loss to the Patriots. The Chargers offense has enough weapons at their disposal and I fully expect Justin Herbert to pick our defense apart. Look for the Chargers to get Austin Ekeler involved early and often in this one. I refuse to be fooled by last week’s mirage of a game. Hop onboard the L train because here comes another one. Chugga Chugga Choo Choo!

Chargers 34 – Eagles 23

Sean Brace (@Sean_Brace):

I was called out last week for being too negative with the Eagles and you know what, he was right. After last week’s performance, I’m ready to believe again! Haha. I think the Eagles will come up short by a last second field goal but I do think we will see a much better game plan from Nick Lasso and company. BRING ON THOSE MOCK DRAFTS!
