Flyers place winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel on waivers

The Philadelphia Flyers could be down a forward by weekend’s end.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel has been placed on waivers ahead of tonight’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes, the team announced Friday. Aube-Kubel, a former second round draft pick by the Flyers in the 2014 NHL Draft, has one assist in seven games with the team this season.

The 25-year-old is in the middle of his fourth season in the NHL, in which he’s totaled 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 102 career regular season games. His best season came in 2018-19 when he recorded seven goals and 15 points in 36 games for the Flyers.

With veteran forward Kevin Hayes set to return from his injury, the Flyers would likely have to clear a spot on the offense. Aube-Kubel has registered just under ten minutes of ice time per game this season and could be a lower-line winger for another team in the NHL.

The Flyers will look to rebound from Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Toronto by taking on the 10-1 Hurricanes tonight in Raleigh, North Carolina.
