Rick Williams set to take over 11 p.m. weeknights with Jim Gardner’s last broadcast tonight

Philadelphia news legend, Jim Gardner, is retiring at the end of this year. But tonight will be his last broadcast in the 11 p.m. eastern slot, as he’ll concentrate on only the 6 p.m. slot the rest of the year.

Today, 6abc announced another Philly news legend, Rick Williams, will take over that 11 p.m. slot beginning Wednesday night.

Shrewd move by 6abc. Replacing one legend with another. I can’t tell you how many times my family sat down at the dinner table and listened to Rick and Monica Malpass bring us everything that we wanted to know just for a span of a half-hour before I wanted to go play video games or watch wrestling tapes. Rick’s been a constant voice from my childhood into adulthood when it comes to the news and I’m thrilled that the blow from Gardner leaving is lessened by this.
