Eric Bischoff has said before on his podcast 83 Weeks that he always looked at Halloween Havoc as the biggest pay-per-view in the World Championship Wrestling calendar.
While Halloween Havoc was probably one of the best themed pay-per-views professional wrestling has ever had to this day, the executive producer of WCW saying that is somewhat surprising, since everybody else knew that Starrcade was the biggest WCW pay-per-view on their calendar.
Nevertheless, in the latter part of 1996, every WCW pay-per-view felt huge, and Halloween Havoc was no exception. I’m sorry – Slim Jim‘s Halloween Havoc was no exception. The “Macho Man” Randy Savage would take on “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan for the World Heavyweight Championship, but it was the debut of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper that stole the show – almost literally as it went off the rails at the end.
The Outsiders beat Harlem Heat for the World Tag Team Championships because Colonel Robert Parker is a coward, the Giant “defended” the United States Championship despite not being the champion against Jeff Jarrett, who proceeded to whoop the Giant’s ass for a good 7-8 minutes before Ric Flair caused a disqualification.
But before we dive deep into Slim Jim’s Halloween Havoc ’96, we discuss WWE Extreme Rules coming to Philly this weekend, and all the backstage drama in All Elite Wrestling that, if it’s all a work, reflects very poorly on everybody involved with the company.
