Reports: Jalen Hurts suffers shoulder sprain, status unknown for Cowboys game

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts enjoyed three touchdown runs in Sunday’s 25-20 victory over the Chicago Bears, but walked away banged up following the physical affair at Soldier Field.

Hurts suffered a sprained shoulder in the victory, ESPN and NFL.com reported Monday. His status for Saturday’s Christmas Eve showdown with the Dallas Cowboys remains unknown following the injury. Hurts’ shoulder injury isn’t expected to be long-term, according to the report.

The third-year quarterback has led the Eagles to an NFL best 13-1 record in 2022, throwing for 3,472 yards, rushing for 747 yards, and totaling 35 touchdowns to only five interceptions. Hurts has led the conversation for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award for his stellar growth this season as the Eagles remain one of the favorites for the Super Bowl.

Hurts’ versatility has been key for the Eagles offense, as well as the arrival of A.J. Brown to the wide receiver corps. Although Hurts has been sacked 35 times, nine more than the entirety of the 2021 season, he has made smart decisions with the ball, and limited the turnovers.

The Eagles can clinch both the No. 1 seed in the NFC and the NFC East title with a victory over the Cowboys on Saturday. Should they suffer defeat at AT&T Stadium, the Eagles can also complete the feat with a win over the New Orleans Saints or the New York Giants in their final two regular-season games.

Dallas clinched its playoff berth following the Giants’ 20-12 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday night.
