Foerster, Brink, Andrae headline young players to watch on Flyers opening day roster

The Philadelphia Flyers are three days away from kicking off their 2023-24 regular season schedule and several young players will be among the ones to watch.

Tyson Foerster, Bobby Brink, and Emil Andrae headline the young talents in the 23-man squad for the start of the NHL season, the team announced Monday. Veterans Cam Atkinson and Sean Couturier are back and healthy for the Flyers after missing the 2022-23 season due to respective injuries.

Foerster led the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in points (48) during the 2022-23 season. Brink totaled 12 goals and 16 assists for Lehigh Valley while Andrae played in 10 games for the Phantoms.

Defensemen Ryan Ellis and Rasmus Ristolainen will start the new season on injured-reserve while winger J.R. Avon is on the Injured Non-Roster list.

There are several other new faces on the Flyers roster this season after being acquired via trade or free agency. Garnet Hathaway, and Marc Staal were signed via free agency while Sean Walker was added in a three-team trade from the Los Angeles Kings.

Head coach John Tortorella has named three goaltenders to his roster with Carter Hart returning as the No. 1 option. Samuel Ersson and Felix Sandstrom will both fight for opportunities alongside Hart this season.

The Flyers will visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, October 12 in their season opener.

Forwards – Cam Atkinson, Bobby Brink, Noah Cates, Sean Couturier, Nick Deslauriers, Joel Farabee, Tyson Foerster, Morgan Frost, Garnet Hathaway, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton, Ryan Poehling, Owen Tippett

Defensemen – Emil Andrae, Travis Sanheim, Nick Seeler, Marc Staal, Sean Walker, Cam York, Egor Zamula

Goaltenders – Samuel Ersson, Carter Hart, Felix Sandstrom
