The NBA finals tipped off last night and if it seemed like everybody was watching, you’re not mistaken. Last nights action produced the best ratings a finals game has seen in the last 14 years. We all tune in for the Bron factor, yes. He’s the best ‘bang for your buck” in all of professional sports. (The guy that comes in second on that list plays tomorrow at 2:45, Messi “The Gawd.”) But creeping up on that list fast, I mean straight nitro fast is the MVP, Steph Curry. Chef went for 26 last night, 10 of 20 from the field. The thing about Curry is, you know he’s pulling up, you even make it tough with a hand in his face, maybe he’s even a little off balance…don’t matter, its good. Bron vs Steph is what we all wanted to see in the finals. However we wanted Lebron to have some talent around him as well. Last night Kyrie Irving played 44 minutes and scored 23. Unfortunately with two minutes left in OT, Irving was driving to the basket, planted and collapsed. His knee gave out again and it does not look good for Kyrie. Hopefully his MRI reveals no further damage and he can give it a go at some point again in this series. Doubtful in my mind though. Great game last night, hopefully Bron and company can win a game or 2.
As I said in the previous post, Champions League final is tomorrow. Best of the best. Its true, we all wanted El Clasico (Real Madrid vs FC Barcelona) but Juventus spoiled that party with a huge upset over Ronaldo and company. I’m pretty sure thats where the fun ends for Juventus. FC Barcelona is a different monster. Amazing speed & talent at every position, including the 3 headed monster of Suarez, Neymar & Messi The Gawd! To answer this articles question…Nope, they won’t be stopped.
Staying with soccer, the Philadelphia Union have a big game Saturday night. Taking on our new rivals, NYCFC. Perfect time for you to call up some friends, set up a tailgate and go support the “Boys in Blue.” Trust me, its a great time and you’re out of there by 10PM. Short drive to Center City, and you have a cocktail in your hand by 11PM. Boom, have fun. (Go stand in the river-end for the full dose of crazy!)
Got a text around noon today to see if I wanted to roll to the Belmont tomorrow. I’m pissed because that sounds like an amazing venture! (Heading to the beach with my baby) Pretty sure history will be made? Only 8 horses going against American Pharaoh at this years Belmont. AP has already showed us he’s a beast, tomorrow will be no different. Bring it home! (SunTimes)
I don’t watch “First Take” but I do like Stephen A. I’m sure today was all about how Lebron needed to score 60 and he let his team down by only scoring 44. Bayless is a clown. However they did slide in a mention about the claim made by Washington Post reporter, Kent Babb, that Allen Iverson was boozed up during the infamous “practice” presser. SAS, says its not true. (From what I’ve been told, Iverson was banged up, not sure why Stephen A is denying it?)
This is HUGE for the NFL, but not really getting a ton of pub. Funny thing is, Roger Goodell is GREAT at his #1 job, making the owners more money. And now, with Yahoo winning the rights to stream an upcoming NFL game this season, there it is, POW, 10-20 million extra dollars right now. Hit the FF button to 2020 and who knows what that price tag will read. (Yahoo)
This day in sports history….I want to say the “Be like Mike” song started from this move. The up and under during the 91 finals, Bulls/Lakers game 2. Jordan drives the lane, thinks he’s going to be blocked, ad-libs, hangs in the air for 30 seconds, switches hands, lays it in. Press play on that right there.
And finally, “after the show its the after party!” This song was on top of the R&B charts in 2001. I always loved a Kells/J collaboration. Might have to list my top 5 songs between these 2. STRONG.
Have a great weekend and thank you for reading!
