Howie Roseman May Consider Keeping Sam Bradford Around Next Season

When Sam Bradford signed his two-year deal with the Eagles, the numbers suggested it would likely be a one-year deal. When the Eagles traded up to the second overall draft pick, that pretty much cemented the fact that Bradford was only going to be here for one more season. He threw a hissy fit and left the team for a while, but eventually returned after a couple of weeks. But, according to Howie Roseman, the Eagles are exploring all avenues moving forward, and that might include keeping Bradford around in 2017. Oh, and he also also took a shot at Chip Kelly. Can you spot it!?

Les Bowen: Talk about the cap for next year… if you had to fit Sam Bradford in 2017, could you possibly do it?

Howie Roseman: No question.

LB: Yeah?

HR: No question.

LB: How?

HR: Well, we’re not in the business of losing good players. So, that’s our job to kind of figure out scenarios and to figure out ways to do that. We’ve gone through all those scenarios. Obviously, it’s [the salary cap] tighter than it’s been since I’ve been here. But, we also felt like it was an opportunity now with where our players were, that the longer we waited, the more players we would probably have to lose, because time is never helpful in these things. We went into it knowing that for sure.

What does all of this mean for Carson Wentz? Not much, likely. I don’t think there’s a chance he’s not the Week 1 starter in 2017. And, honestly, Roseman isn’t going to say that Bradford’s only here for one season since he’s signed to a two-year contract. And bringing Bradford back for another season would probably cost a few players who will be free agents next season. Here’s one big name the Eagles need to re-sign: Bennie Logan.
