Chip Kelly Got Passed Over Again for an NFL Offensive Coordinator Position

That’s now strike two for Chip Kelly this offseason.

The Jacksonville Jaguars named Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator over Kelly a couple weeks ago and the Atlanta Falcons hired Steve Sarkisian as their replacement for Kyle Shanahan as their new offensive coordinator on Tuesday. Chip had been rumored as a candidate for the position.

Shanahan is replacing Kelly as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers after helping the Falcons lead the NFL in scoring with 33.8 points per game. Sarkisian joined the Alabama coaching staff last September and was the school’s offensive coordinator in its 35-31 national championship loss to Clemson.

From 20-12 over his first two seasons to 8-23 over his last two, the fall from grace has been drastic for Chip.
