Kacper Przybylko has made the starting striker spot his over the past few seasons with the Philadelphia Union, but could be swayed to leave Chester this winter.
Przybylko admitted in an interview with Polish outlet Weszlo that the Chicago Fire have shown interest in acquiring him on a permanent transfer. European clubs have also shown interest in the striker, providing another option for him going forward, should he want to leave the Union.
“The Chicago Fire has come forward, the offer is on the table in Philadelphia,” Przybylko said in the interview. “The sporting directors will be talking to each other and we’ll see what comes out of it. I would like to accept this offer. I have a guaranteed contract there for a long time.”
Przybylko has totaled 35 league goals and 14 assists for the Union in 87 league appearances over the past three seasons. The 28-year-old also finished as the Concacaf Champions League’s Golden Boot winner in 2021 after notching five goals and one assist in six appearances for Jim Curtin’s squad.
A former Polish youth national team player, Przybylko previously played in Germany for Arminia Bielefeld, FC Cologne, Greuther Furth, and FC Kaiserslautern.
“I’ve been the most effective striker here for three years, I’m scoring those goals,” Przybylko added in the interview. “The coach believes in me. However, when it comes to such contact with the authorities…Well, all eleven [players] have a guaranteed contract, and I have to fight for these “options”. This is the stress, the pressure that I have all year round. I can’t get injured when it happens in football. I asked for a guaranteed contract, but nothing happened in that direction. Chicago gave me such a contract and I’m very happy about it.”
The Fire failed to make the playoffs in each of the last four seasons and would certainly welcome Przybylko’s presence to their attack. Robert Beric led the team with 12 goals in 2021, but since has departed the club after not being re-signed. He was selected by Sporting Kansas City in the MLS Re-Entry Draft, but has yet signed with the Western Conference club.
