When Jim Schwartz was hired as the new defensive coordinator of the Eagles, a lot of fans were wondering if he would change the defensive scheme installed by Billy Davis’ 3-4 concept back to a 4-3. Luckily for us, Schwartz was on the WIP Morning Show with Angelo Cataldi today, and confirmed his defense will play in a 4-3 scheme.
Angelo Cataldi: You will change the scheme, Jim. Everybody assumes you’ll go more to a 4-3. Is that safe to say?
Jim Schwartz: Um, yeah, for sure. We’re not gonna be a two-gap 3-4. I want those defensive linemen to be attacking. I want those guys to be creating and wreaking some havoc and putting pressure on the quarterback. They’re not gonna be playing at the line of scrimmage and grabbing guys and trying to keep the linebackers clean. I think we have some good guys up front. We can take the handcuffs off of them a little bit and get some more production out of them.
Under Billy Davis, the defense was a 3-4, which didn’t exactly play to the strengths of their defensive talent on the roster. With the report that the Eagles are close to finalizing a contract with Fletcher Cox, and with him under Jim Schwartz, he just might become the best defensive end in the league by a large margin.

Fuck Crossing Broad!!!
The interview with Jim Schwartz was actually great today. He is an interesting guy. He’s a great defensive coach. It will be nice to have a good defense in town again. It’s been years.
Fletcher Cox will be defensive tackle in a 4-3 not a defensive end.
Jeffy lurie is making a new movie next month it’s called NFL DADDY STARRING him as the NFL DADDY. Howie Roseman as the silver spooned kid Doug pederson as Jason Kelce and Jim Schwartz as the antagonist who questions the football acumen of the clowns that are around him. It’s starts as Jeffy fires chip after he cries to the media that he wants his team back and the team falls into a further abyss after Jeffy gives the silver spooned kid the franchise back and they hire the kelce they need to restore placated order. But underneath it all is a team that looks like they may never go forward and watch the rest of the league pass them by. Will they make it through there own cloud of distortion to see the forest through the trees or will they just keep bringing in kelce’s to play it out in front of the media storm.
Crossing who?
In Jim Schwartz’ 4 – 3 system, Fletcher Cox will be a modern day Jerome Brown.
