Vampire Weekend Co-Founder Leaves Band

I said,
“You know
There’s nowhere else to go”
But changing roles
It struck me that the two of us could ruuuunnnn

Well, maybe it’s only Rostam Batmanglij doing the running. Batmanglij, who co-founded indie rock band Vampire Weekend while at New York’s Columbia University in 2006, has left the band, he announced on Twitter Tuesday.

Batmanglij played guitar and keyboard throughout each of the band’s three hit albums, the most recent of which was 2013’s Grammy Award-winning Modern Vampires of the City.

Here is his statement:

Batmanglij previously did some solo work, as well as collaborated and/or produced with the likes of Ra Ra Riot, Charli XCX, Hamilton Leithauser and even Carly Rae Jepsen. Only time will tell what’s next, although it certainly sounds like we have not heard the last of him.

Batmanglij is already listed as a former member of VW on both his and the band’s Wikipedia pages, so you know it’s official.
