I’ve been resigned to the fact that Doug Pederson and co. will draft their quarterback of the future, even if there is no future for any of the quarterbacks coming out to the NFL Draft, this upcoming season. If you’ve really listened to Pederson in interviews, he sounds absolutely noncommittal about bringing Sam Bradford back to the team, and Bradford sounded noncommittal about coming back when Chip Kelly was still here. There was a report out there that he was also mad when Chip was fired.
However, the more we get into the thickness of the offseason, the Eagles might be better off keeping Bradford, though not long-term, and finding their quarterback of the future in the meantime. I know that doesn’t sound great for Bradford, but he’s probably set to make at least $15 million. That’s a number I just came up with out of my ass, so it has literally no context attached to it. Would you bring Bradford back for $15 million?
Jason Cole from Bleacher Report said today in the video above that he believes Bradford will re-sign with the Eagles, simply because he doesn’t think he’s going to get anything remotely impressive in free agency and would rather stay around some of the guys he spent last season with. Cole went on the Josh Innes Show on 94WIP and even said that he doesn’t know what the Eagles’ plan is regarding the draft, so he doesn’t know if they’re going to go after a quarterback in the draft or not. To me, it sounds a little like Cole slingin’ some shit up there at a wall and hoping it sticks. Kinda like my $15 million figure.
Here’s the audio of Cole’s interview on WIP.
