Shayne Gostisbehere has taken the NHL by storm as a rookie.
As he continues to make a surge for the Calder Trophy — awarded to the league’s top rookie — Gostisbehere isn’t letting anything get in his way, records included.
During Thursday’s 5-1 win over Buffalo, ‘Ghost’ picked up an assist on a Wayne Simmonds goal. The helper marked the 10th straight game in which he recorded a point, which tied the Flyers team record for most points in consecutive games dating back to the 1993 season (M. Renberg).
That streak also is the longest by a rookie defenseman since Barry Beck in 1977-78.
But wait, there’s more.
He has now recorded an assist in nine straight games, which is the longest such streak since Evgeni Malkin and Claude Giroux did so in the 2013-14 season.
Seriously, what can’t this kid do?
