With free agency looming, the Eagles are already making some big moves. They’ve agreed to trade DeMarco Murray to the Titans and they’ve agreed to trade Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso to the Dolphins. It’ll definitely be interesting to see how they replace these players, but according to a new report, the Eagles may already have their sights set on Alonso’s replacement.
Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com is reporting that “a person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity, the Eagles have expressed interest in free agent linebacker Tahir Whitehead, who is set to become a free agent on Wednesday.”
Whitehead has ties to new Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz from their days in Detroit. Whitehead is also familiar with the 4-3 defense. Last year in 16 games, Whitehead had 50 tackles and two sacks and worked a timeshare with Travis Lewis before taking over the bulkĀ of the snaps down the stretch last season.
Right now clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4 P.M. ET on March 9.
