Arguably playing like the Philadelphia Eagles’ best cornerback last season, Nolan Carroll was lost for the year after breaking his ankle during the team’s Week 12 Thanksgiving loss to the Detroit Lions.
Carroll opened up about that injury during his news conference Friday to announce his new one-year contract.
“It’s been more mental than anything else,” he said. “There might be days where you feel like something is hurting on you and you don’t necessarily want to push it too much. But that’s when you have to push it to make your mind say, ‘Hey, look, you tolerate this type of pain.'”
According to Ian Rapoport, Carroll will make $2.36 million and could earn up to $3 million next season.
“All I’m worried about is rehabbing and getting back to being a better player next year,” he said.
While the Eagles signed cornerbacks Leodis McKelvin and Ron Brooks to contracts last week, Carroll visited the Dallas Cowboys before leaving without a deal. He will be in the mix as a possible starter alongside second-year corner Eric Rowe in Philadelphia’s secondary. Carroll posted 57 tackles and two interceptions last season.
“Me being a starter, that’s been my mindset ever since I’ve gotten into the league,” he said. “So whenever I’m cleared to go, that’s going to be my mindset.”
He’s probably out in Philly.
