The Morning Brew for March 7

The greatest thing to come out of this weekend was probably the fact that Chase Utley won’t be suspended for his slide into Ruben Tejada last October during the MLB playoffs. More on this later. Can’t wait to see what Mets fans have to say about this.

OK, I lied. I couldn’t care less what Mets fans think about this. Let’s get to the brew.

And now, the brew:

The Union lost their 2016 opener to FC Dallas yesterday, 2-0.

Radko Gudas had the night of his life on Saturday night.

Great story on Jake Voracek.

Eagles backup center David Molk retired.

Here are the brackets for the Big East and Atlantic 10 tournaments, respectively, courtesy of CSN Philly. They both begin Wednesday, March 9th.

Both Holly Holm and Conor McGregor got choked out at UFC 196 Saturday night.

Earl Wolff was kidnapped at gunpoint in February.

Saturday Night Live is great during an election year.

Ray Didinger on the passing of Eagles’ great, Al Wistert.

Peyton Manning is retiring. Absolutely zero people are surprised. Here’s a statement from John Elway.

When you look at everything Peyton has accomplished as a player and person, it’s easy to see how fortunate we’ve been to have him on our team,” said John Elway, Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager. “Peyton was everything that we thought he was and even more—not only for the football team but in the community. I’m very thankful Peyton chose to play for the Denver Broncos, and I congratulate him on his Hall of Fame career.”

CSN Red Sox reporter, Jessica Moran, resigned from the network in Boston on Friday amid rumors of her relationship with Red Sox manager John Farrell. It’s a pretty crazy story.

The 53-year-old Farrell declined to comment on the situation on Friday, though he did say that he and his wife are getting divorced. The couple has reportedly been separated for almost two years but have been together for 30 years and have three sons.

When asked about Moran on Friday, Farrell said, “My private life is private.”

Moran has declined comment on the relationship, and her boss Bill Bridgen, the GM of Comcast SportsNet New England, has also been silent. On Friday, Moran sent a text to The Globe, saying the following:

‘I have stepped away from Comcast SportsNet as I thought it was in my best personal and professional interest to do so. They have been extremely supportive during my tenure at the network – and with this decision – and I am very appreciative of that.’

Rams running back Tre Mason was arrested, and tasered, in Hollywood.

Joseph Randle continues to get arrested like it’s his job. This time, he was arrested in Kansas for failure to appear in court.

I’ve died and gone to pizza heaven.

Corruption? Nah.

Our savior Ben Simmons apparently isn’t taking his academic studies very seriously.
