First, Greg Cosell compared Rodney McLeod to Earl Thomas, and now he’s saying that Carson Wentz is better than any of the quarterbacks in the 2015 NFL Draft class.
Genius or middle aged and crazy?
The NFL Films analyst joined the philadelphiaeagles.com Journey to the Draft Podcast recently to discuss Wentz and a plethora of topics regarding the upcoming draft.
The most noteworthy comment came when he said that Wentz was better than Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, who the Eagles reportedly were ready to sell the house to get last season. The Tennessee Titans, however, wanted the neighborhood and selected the Heisman Trophy winner at No. 2.
“If I had to compare this year’s group, I think Wentz is more talented than either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota just in terms of traits. I think Carson Wentz is a high-level traits prospect,” Cosell said.
Quite the praise for the North Dakota State quarterback.
Cosell also gave his thoughts on California’s Jared Goff.
“I like Jared Goff, I’m not sure I would view him as a top two or three pick in the draft,” he said. “Now, that’s in an ideal world. Every draft, we know how quarterbacks are viewed.”
The Eagles are definitely serious about drafting a quarterback. They saw four of them last week, including Goff on Monday, Stanford’s Kevin Hogan Tuesday, Wentz on Wednesday and Memphis’ Paxton Lynch Thursday. It’s also been confirmed that they took Wentz and Goff out to dinner.
Wentz, Goff, Lynch and Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott will have pre-draft visits at the NovaCare Complex next week and Philadelphia worked out Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg on Friday.
