While the Phillies are continuing their free fall back to earth and into the ground – very, very deep, I might add – maybe we should turn our attention to their Double-A affiliate, the Reading Fightins. The Fightins’ 51-22 record and a 6.5 game lead over the Trenton Thunder in the Eastern League Eastern standings. They’re a fun team to watch and if you can get out to the stadium or follow them online, I highly suggest you do. Of course, winning baseball games is always a good thing, regardless if it’s the minor leagues or not.
Last night, the Fightins were tied with the Akron RubberDucks [I love minor league team names], who currently lead the Eastern League Western standings with a 42-31 record, in the bottom of the 11th inning when RubberDucks pitcher JP Feyereisen threw a wild pitch… during an intentional walk.
Not a bad walk-off. Embarrasses the other team and our guys get another W. Salt, open wound. Fantastic.
Now if only the Phillies could, you know, do something similar on a consistent basis. Like win.
