Catching up with the Birds

A lot of Eagles content gets published each day, so here’s a recap of your Eagles news from this past week.

While the NFL continues to grow globally, it hasn’t been able to land foreign talent like the NBA, NHL and MLB has.

And it’s not close.

Dario Saric has finally signed with the Philadelphia 76ers after being acquired in a draft-day trade from the Orlando Magic two years ago. Many fans stationed at Philadelphia airport waiting for the Croatian’s arrival. You won’t be seeing that for a foreign Eagles player.

Football is more of a curiosity overseas than something that is practiced, although I believe the NFL taking its product to England the last few years will see benefits down the line. There was a report this week that the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams will play a 2018 game in China.

Ziggy Ansah (Ghana), Sebastian Vollmer (German), Tamba Hali (Liberia), Jay Ajayi (England), Bjoern Werner (Germany), Star Lotulelei (Tonga), Orlando Franklin (Jamaica) and Sebastian Janikowski (Poland) are a few NFL talents who were not born in the U.S., but the league still has a ways to go.

Progress is being made, though.

On to the links:

The Eagles are ranked 24th on ESPN’s annual NFL Future Power Rankings, a forecast of where each franchise will be in three years. Louis Riddick, Field Yates and Mike Sando graded each NFL team on a scale of 0-100, using five categories.

The NFL Network top 100 list may not recognize how great Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins is, but various other football publications do. Jenkins made Pro Football Focus’ top 101 list and was ranked as a top 10 safety in both Pro Football Weekly and Athlon’s 2016 NFL preview magazines.

Bleacher Report has released five parts of a Michael Vick documentary on their website this week. You can watch them all here.

Last month, Nelson Agholor was accused of sexually assaulting a dancer at Cheerleaders Gentlemen’s Club. The subsequent investigation was sent to the District Attorney’s office. Late Thursday night, Les Bowen reported that he was told Agholor will not be charged in the incident.
