Joel Embiid Would’ve Been an All-Star Starter in the Old Voting System

The NBA had to change the process!

Despite all of the efforts and Vote Joel Embiid tweets, he was not named a starter for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game. LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jimmy Butler were voted into the frontcourt, while Kyrie Irving and DeMar DeRozan got the nod in the backcourt.

The voting is made up of fan votes, which is 50 percent, while the players and media receive 25 percent of the vote. Had the frontcourt starters been named based on fan voting only like it had been in the past, Embiid would’ve been the third man in behind James and the Greek Freek.

Embiid, of course, is having a monster rookie season where he is averaging 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. He is, however, on a 28-minute restriction and the Philadelphia 76ers are still just 14-26 despite winning seven of their last nine contests. Perhaps that played a role in why he wasn’t a starter.

The reserves will be announced on Jan. 26.
