What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: July 21-23

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through The Week

1. The Oval Opens

Where: The Oval, 2451 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Open through Sunday, August 20th

Eakins Oval has a been a staple park area on the Ben Franklin Parkway for years. This week the majesty of the colorful landscape and exciting circular shaped terrain returns. The Oval has games, quiz nights, daily events for the family, a beer garden, classes and workshops, and more. This Friday night at 9PM there will be a special screening of the film Clueless. Bring a blanket and some friends for this amazing classic.

2. Ardmore Restaurant Week

Where: Various locations
When: Runs now through Sunday, July 30th

About a half an hour outside of the city you’ll find Ardmore. For the next week the community will be hosting the Ardmore Restaurant Week. There will be prix fixe dinners being offered for $25 or $35 at participating locations. There are over a dozen restaurants, breweries, and shops included. Several of these local culinary spots are BYOB.

3. Beauty and the Beast at Dilworth Park

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 s. 15th St.
When: Friday, July 21st, 8:30PM

Dilworth Park will be having Pictures In the Park: Beauty and the Beauty this Friday night. Highlight the live action Disney feature with wine, cocktails, craft beers, and great food in the open air of the park. Presented by Live Nation, this event simply ask you to bring a blanket and your friends and family for a fun night out.

4. 311

Where: The Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, 601 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, July 21st, 7PM

The Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing will be rocking when Omaha rock band 311 takes over the main stage this Friday night. The five member alternative and eclectic rock band released a new album Mosaic in June. The latest project takes this band, which was named after the day they were formed, full album total to a pure dozen.

5. Chicago & The Doobie Brothers

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Friday, July 21st, 7:30PM

Across the river on the Camden waterfront rock legends Chicago and The Doobie Brothers will be performing at the BB&T Pavilion. Chicago is one of the world’s best selling acts with massive chart success and a litany of hits. Inducted in 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame, there will be many tracks for this classic act to belt out. Great musicians in their own right, The Doobie Brothers hold the distinction of being Vocal Group Hall of Fame inductees.

6. Makers Market

Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N. 2nd St.
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 10AM-6PM

This Saturday the Piazza at The Schmidt’s Commons will be flushed with several vendors offering up collectibles, antiques, handmade crafts, jewelry, and more for sale. This open-air market in Northern Liberties will surely have the much-needed candle, watch, lotion, or shoes that’s missing from your everyday life. The best part is that you’ll be helping out local merchants at this event.

7. 4th Annual Hoodstock

Where: Life Do Grow Farm, 11th & Dauphin
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 12PM-7PM

The 4th Annual Hoodstock is this weekend. This free to enter event will have live musical acts, performers, a farmers market, petting zoo, and so much more. Presented by Philly Urban Creators, this innovative gathering links the community like no other. There will be more than 30 vendors at this celebration of art and culture showcasing the collaboration that sustains the local bonds in the area.

8. 40th Street Summer Series

Where: 40th and Walnut St.
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 5PM

The third Saturday of the month, the 40th Street Summer Series kicks off your weekend evening in the right way. This Saturday Dan BlacksBerg’s Hot Klezmers and the West Philadelphia Orchestra will be featured act. Come out for this festivity of joy, music, and togetherness which will have food and drinks for sale.

9. 17th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival

Where: Wiggins Park Marina, Mickle Blvd and Riverside Dr. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 12PM-8PM

The 17th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival will be taking its place at Wiggins Park Marina this Saturday afternoon. There will be food, artistic displays, live musical acts, dancing performances, vendors, and so much more. The free event will have plenty of  wonderful activities for the whole family.

10. Parks on Tap Jr. Movie Night

Where: Franklin Sqaure, 6th and Race St.
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 12PM-10PM

Franklin Square has partnered with Parks On Tap to enhance the carousel and gaming area with a movie night. This Saturday viewers can catch a screening of the classic get-out-of-school film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The 1986 film will be projected on the Great Lawn. Engaging activities such as mini-golf and more will be open at this free screening. Be sure to check out the Twilight Music Festival this Sunday which is also affiliated with Parks on Tap.

11. Pop Up Beer Garden

Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N. 2nd St.
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 10AM-9PM

We’re back at The Schmidt’s Commons on this list of weekend events. The piazza will be the place for a welcomed summer pop up beer garden this Saturday. There will be local breweries represented, fun games and activities, music, and a lot more. Here you’ll find specialty cocktails, wines, and amazing food.

12. Evolution Performance Car Show

Where: Evolution Performance Inc., 3606 Market St. Aston, PA
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 10AM-3PM

You’ll have to venture some minutes outside of the city for this event but if you’re lucky enough to have one of these insane cars on display, you’ll get thee in no time. If you’re a spectator at this show the admission is free. You’ll have access to viewing over a dozen different types of car, motorcycle, and truck classes. There will be music, food, drinks,prizes, and more.

13. Islamic Heritage Festival

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 2PM-8PM

The events for the Islamic Heritage Festival actually span the entirety of this weekend. This Friday there will be a citywide Jummah, this Saturday will be highlighted by a rally & parade, and Sunday closes everything out with a festival. Come out to this cultural and religious celebration that puts diversity and recognition at the center of this incredible event. Admission for every day is free.

14. OneRepublic

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 7PM

Grammy award-winning band OneRepublic will be bringing their 2017 headlining tour to the area this Saturday. The opening acts will include Fitz and Tantrums and James Arthur. The Honda Civic Tour will fill the amphitheater with excitement as the “I Lived” singers will wow the crowd.

15. Jurassic Park with The Philadelphia Orchestra

Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 6PM

Not to be outdone be the previous outdoor venues and movie screenings, The Mann Center’s production of Jurassic Park ups the ante on both accounts. Paired with The Philadelphia Orchestra, this exciting arena will screen the amazing film with precision and skilled musicians. Come watch the movie and hear the score live this Saturday.

16. Firefly Festival

Where: Tabora Farm & Orchard, 1104 Upper Stump Rd. Chalfont, PA
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 6PM-9PM

If you venture 20 minutes outside the city this Saturday night you could find a wonderful festival waiting for you in Chalfont. There will be live music, games, a massive BBQ, bonfires, wagon rides, and more. You’ll also be able to take part in a massive firefly catching event that will light up the night.

17. Hans Zimmer Live

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 7PM

Hans Zimmer is a world-renowned film score composer. His name has been attached to great works including The Lion King, Gladiator, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, The Last Samurai, and more. Owner of an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, four Grammy awards, and countless other awards, his work in the realm of film has been second to none.

18. Sweat + Sip

Where: City Tap House, 3925 Walnut St.
When: Every Sunday through August 27th

Each Sunday, City Tap House in University City, hosts Sweat + Sip. This is a free and highly interactive fitness event. After the complimentary class guests can stay for brunch cocktails and food. This week’s class features barre. Bring your friends out for a free day of fitness and a creative brunch experience.

19. WWE Battleground

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, July 23rd, 7:30PM

Starting at $25 a ticket, the Wells Fargo Center is offering a wrestling event to liven up your Sunday night. At WWE Battleground this weekend you’ll be able to see Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal duel it out in the explosive matchup of brawn and skill. WWE calls this week The Return of the Punjabi Prison. With a title like that, the show will surely be wild.

20. Slayer

Where: Electric Factory, 421 N. 7th St.

When: Sunday, July 23rd, 7PM

California heavy metal band Slayer will be firing up the sound system at The Electric Factory with their amplified and adrenaline laced music this Sunday night. The group has multiple Grammy awards and has recorded twelve studio albums. The bass drumming will be electric, the riffs will be out-of-this-world, and the crowd will match their intensity tenfold.

21. Radio 104.5 Summer Block Party

Where: The Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, 601 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, July 23rd, 2PM

Radio 104.5 always does their fans a solid each summer by hosting a series of free concerts at the Festival Pier. This Sunday’s lineup includes Misterwives, Ballyhoo!, Rubblebucket, Beach Slang, and The Bad Bees. There will be drinks flowing from several vendors, on site food options, and much more in the sand filled concert venue.

22. Jidenna

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Sunday, July 23rd, 8PM

Contemporary hip hop acts brings his storytelling, dance evoking tunes, and great lyricism to The Fillmore Philadelphia this Sunday. The “Bambi” singer Jidenna will wow the crowd with his music as he looks to end your weekend on a high note at this fantastic concert venue. Come see the Wonderland act at this entertaining show.

Upcoming Feature Event


Philadelphia Wine and Craft Cocktail Festival 


Where: SugarHouse Casino, 1001 N. Delaware Ave.
When: Thursday, July 27th, 5:30PM-9:30PM

The Philadelphia Wine & Craft Cocktail Festival is two weeks away! There will be unlimited samples of wine, cocktails, and tasty pairing bites. There will also be tremendous live music at this annual beverage themed blowout. Guests will receive a complimentary sampling glass and $20 in free slot play at the casino.
