What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: August 25-27

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St.
When: Friday, August 25th, 8:30PM-10:30 PM

Last year it was reported that Chris Pratt was one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. Blockbuster films like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are why. This Friday night come to Dilworth Park to see this high-octane feature film screened in the outdoor theater. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase at this free and bring your own blanket event.

2. Moana

Where: Clark Park, 4300 Baltimore Ave.
When: Friday, August 25th, 8PM

Ever week there have been free outdoor film screenings in Clark park. This week takes it to the next level. Not only is Disney’s spectacle feature Moana being screened but Parks on Tap will be on location as well. Come to this scenic area with your friends and family for this wonderful film and partake in the rotating food truck and beer garden as well.

3. Jason Aldean

Where: BB&T Pavillion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Friday, August 25th, 7:30PM

2017 netted Jason Aldean with his first ACM “Entertainer of the Year” award. To couple with the success and the recent album release that gained him the distinction, he has embarked on the The Don’t Know Tour. This Friday at the BB&T Center Aldean, Chris Young, Kane Brown and Dee Jay Silver will be lighting up the crowd at this amazing waterfront amphitheater.

4. Superhero Weekend

Where: Please Touch Museum, 4231 Avenue of the Republic Ave.
When: Saturday, August 26th-Sunday, August 27th

This weekend the Please Touch Museum will be hosting a Superhero Weekend. There will be arts & crafts centers, a superhero play center with capes and accessories, superhero meet and greats, storytelling, a parade, and more. Come out to this engaging event for the whole family. The festival is included your in general admission ticket.

5. Market of the Macabre

Where: Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Ave.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 12PM-5PM

This Saturday Laurel Hill Cemetery will be hosting a gathering of specialty curated collectibles at Gone But Not Forgotten: Crafts and Curiosities. There will be vintage pieces, artwork, and handmade crafts. There will also be guided tours, drinks provided by East Falls Beer Garden, and food from Philly Blind Pig BBQ at this event. Macabre themed attire is encouraged.

6. Women’s Equality Day

Where: Independence National Historical Park, 599 Market St.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 10:30AM-1PM

In celebration of the ratification of the 19th Amendment on August 26th, 1920 Vision 2020 will be holding a daylong festival. Come to Visitor Center at Independence National Historical Park for a HERstory interactive scavenger hunt, prizes, snacks, beverages, and more at this celebratory historic event.

7. Sounds of Inspiration 2017

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 3PM-7PM

This Saturday 107.9 will be hosting Sounds of Inspiration 2017. This is a free and family-friendly uplifting event. Singers Ricky Dillard, Martha Munizzi, James Fortune, Derrick Haddon, and more will be displaying their talented vocals and rejoicing spirits at this popular annual concert.

8. Kimmel Center Flea Market

Where: The Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 8AM-4PM

This Saturday the nomadic Philadelphia Flea Market will call the downtown venue The Kimmel Center its home. There will be several antiques and treasures up for sale at this mercantile gathering. The vintage market will have several handmade items, plenty of jewelry, candles, art, and clothing for all your needs.

9. Makers Market

Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N. 2nd St.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 10AM-6PM

This Saturday the Piazza at The Schmidt’s Commons will be continuing its series of Makers Market events. The open-air festival will have plenty of local vendors offering up their best work. From crafts, to furniture, to lifestyle goods,  you’ll find something for everyone here.

10. Franklin Square Food Truck Festivus

Where: Franklin Square, 200 N. 6th St.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 12PM-5PM

This weekend will be the Food Truck Festivus at Franklin Square. The pay-as-you-go food bazaar will have representatives from The Cow and The Curd, Philly Fry, Little Baby’s Ice Cream, Bonjour Creperie, and Loco Gringo Taco. There will be live music, lawn games, and more. Come out and sample it all at this food lovers dream.

11. Arena Bowl

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 7PM

Don’t let your fantasy football drafts or the whiff of college football returning sway you from checking out this truly momentous sporting event this weekend. Arena Bowl XXX will be between the Philadelphia Soul and the Tampa Bay Storm. The Soul will look to repeat as Arena Bowl Champions in the AFL. Bring your city pride and spirit to this ultimate opportunity for glory.

12. Michael Jackson Night

Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 4PM-9PM

This Saturday night the outdoor entertainment area Blue Cross RiverRink will be hosting a Michael Jackson Night. MJ music will be playing all night long. The feature documentary This Is It will be playing at the Waterfront Crabshack. There will be gloves, hats, and a raffle giveaway at the film screening. Bring the family out for the impersonators, face painters, photo-booths, and more art this amazing outdoor rink.

13. Rave of Thrones

Where: The Foundry at The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 9PM

Hold the door and your weekend because Rave of Thrones will be coming to The Foundry at The Fillmore Philadelphia this Saturday night. DJ, actor, and producer Kristian Nairn will be behind the turntables doing a sensational electronic set. The Foundry floor will be full of energy as the Game of Thrones actor fuses live music into his mix.

14. Aretha Franklin

Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, August 26th, 8PM

Legendary singer and Grammy award-winning icon Aretha Franklin will be performing at The Mann Center this Saturday night. The “Respect” and “Son of A Preacher Man” artist will be serenading the adoring crowd of fans with many of her hits. Highly touted as a premier voice in music history, this is a concert you don’t want to miss.

15. Where to Watch Mayweather vs. McGregor

Where: Various locations
When: Saturday, August 26th, 8PM

Even if you lived under a rock in a deep pit, you still would’ve heard the hype of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight this weekend. City Tap House Logan SquareXFINITY Live!, Punch Line Philly, Field House, Dave & Busters, SugarHouse Casino , Aura Nightclub , and plenty of other establishments in he city will be hosting fight night festivities. Prices for these vents range from $25-$100.

16. Obon Festival and Japanese Flea Market

Where: Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, Lansdowne Dr. & Horticultural Dr.
When: Sunday, August 27th, 11AM-4PM

The Shofuso Japanese House and Garden will be hosting their annual Obon Festival and Flea Market this Sunday. There will be live music, food, Japanese art and performances, and an elaborate flea market. The festival will also include traditional Bon odori dance and more at this cultural showcase.

17 . Spruce Street Harbor Barks

Where: Spruce Street Harbor Park, 401 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, August 27th, 11AM-2PM

Spruce Street Harbor Park opens its doors to man’s best and most fluffy friends this Sunday. Spruce Street Harbor Barks will have doggie treats, giveaways and prizes, activities, and more. Bring your pet and walk around the beautiful waterside area. The event is free to enter.

18. Ukrainian Folk Festival

Where: Ukrainian American Sports Center,County Line and Lower State Roads, Horsham, PA
When: Sunday, August 27th, 12PM

Outside of the city the 26th Annual Ukrainian Folk Festival will be taking place. This Sunday the Ukrainian American Sports Center will be filled with Ukrainian art, food, performers, and more. There will be up to eight different musical acts taking the stage at this event. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, and kids 15 and under are free. Come see the rich traction and splendor that Ukrainian culture has to offer.

19. The Recipe

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Sunday, August 27th, 2PM

Punch Line Philly will be hosting a brunch experience like no other this Sunday. This celebration of the sound of soul and tantalizing food will have and open bar from 3PM-4PM, a live DJ mixing great throwbacks and new hits, and other activities. Come have brunch will hitting the dance floor.
