What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: Dec. 1-3

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Historic Holidays and Nights

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Thursday, December 28th

Old City will be getting into the Christmas spirit through the entire month of December. Shoppers can enjoy extend hours at the shops, special menus at local restaurants and bars, and events at galleries. You can look forward to sipping your night away on a signature cocktail as you get the best discounts the area can offer.

2. Adventure Aquarium Christmas

Where: Adventure Aquarium, 1 Riverside Dr. Camden, NJ
When: Runs through Saturday, December 30th

There’s only one place where you can see the world’s tallest submerged Christmas tree this holiday season. Christmas Underwater is one of the prime yearly fixtures of Adventure Aquarium each year. Brings your entire family out to visit scuba Santa Claus, hear story time with Santa’s helpers, join the dance parties, and more.

3. Illuminating Liberty at the Museum of American Revolution

Where: Museum of the American Revolution, 101 S. 3rd Street
When: Runs through Sunday, December 31st

The Museum of American Revolution will be putting the various works of Philadelphia artist and soldier Charles Willson Peale on full display through the month of December. These dazzling pieces were made to catch light as window structures. Each weekend in the month of December from 11AM-3PM kids can stop by to create their own free luminary ornament.

4. Sweat to End Hunger

Where: Various Sweat Fitness locations
When: Runs through Christmas

In Partnership with Philabundance, Sweat Fitness will be offering free group fitness classes over the month of December. with so many locations in the region, you’ll have a great opportunity to catch one of these wallet friendly classes. Attendees must bring two non perishable food items to get this free service. Whether you enjoy yoga, boot camp style classes, or spinning it out on a bike, Sweat Fitness has a class for you.

5. Winter Foundations

Where: Outside the Rodin Museum, 2151 Benjamin Franklin Parkway
When: Runs through Sunday, March 18th

Professor, video stylist, and new-media artist Jennifer Steinkamp will be bringing this visual wonder to the streets of Philadelphia this week. Along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway  you’ll four fiberglass domes glowing with innovative graphics. The artistic pieces will be at Aviator Park, Rodin Museum, Park Towne Place, and Spring Garden Triangle.

6. Blue Cross RiverRink Tree Lighting

Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, December 1st, 6PM-9PM

Holiday gem Blue Cross RiverRink will be having its very own special Christmas tree lighting this Friday night. Award-winning R&B singer Chante Moore will be singing several songs from her Christmas album Christmas Back To You. The night will culminate with the lighting of a 40ft tall tree. There will many other performances, drinks and beverages, and prizes throughout the night.

7. Night at the Market

Where: Reading Terminal Market, 51 N. 12th St.
When: Friday, December 1st, 7PM-10PM

In the 25th  year, The Food Trust will be sponsoring this Friday’s Night at the Market at Reading Terminal Market. General admission is $25 in advance. There will be after hour pop ups for Reading Terminal food and drink vendors. Raffle and prize giveaways will also highlight the night. Come enjoy the live music, magic performances, food demonstrations, photo booths, and more at this charitable and flavor-filled event.

8. Fight Night at SugarHouse Casino

Where: SugarHouse Casino, 1001 N. Delaware Ave.
When: Friday, December 1st, 7PM

There’s nothing like the adrenaline of seeing a live sporting event. The SugarHouse Casino will be hosting Fight Night this Friday. Some of the hardest hitting local fighters will be putting their skill, brawn, and muscle to the test under the lights. There will be several matches that you don’t want to miss.

9. 4:44 Tour

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, December 1st, 8PM

Fresh off his multitude of Grammy nominations, music mogul Jay Z will be bringing his 4:44 Tour to the Wells Fargo Center this Friday night. The tour aligns with his 2017 album release of the same title. Come hear Jay Z rap and perform some of his newest material including “Story of O.J.” and several previous hits.

10. A Very Philly Christmas

Where: Various Historic Houses of Fairmount Park
When: Runs through Sunday, December 31st

The Christmas celebrations keep rolling this month when the Historic Houses of Fairmount Park open their doors for some festive fun. This Saturday from 10AM-4PM at Woodford, Lemon Hill, Strawberry Mansion, Cedar Grove, and Laurel Hill there will be several musical events. Come see talented musicians play along to and sing some of your favorite holiday classics. This Sunday will be Family Day. There will be free hot chocolate, card making, and Christmas characters.

11. Philadelphia Orchestra’s Kids Christmas Spectacular

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, December 2nd, 11:30AM

Continuing with the live music trend, the Philadelphia Orchestra will be holding special concert for the kiddies this Saturday morning. Conductor Aram Demirjian and company will be belting out several Christmas favorites from various children’s holiday productions. Santa and his helpers will be in the building to delight the crowd.

12. Philly POPS Christmas Concerts

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.
When: Runs through Tuesday, December 19th

The kids aren’t the only people getting access to Christmas orchestral music this weekend. A Philly POPS Christmas Spectacular Sounds of the Season kicks-off this week. Conductor Michael Krajewski and the POPS orchestra will be filling Verizon Hall with wondrous and beautiful holiday tunes through the first three weeks of the month.

13. Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, December 2nd, 1PM

There may be no Eagles game in South Philadelphia this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that our other beloved sports teams aren’t giving the home crowd what it needs. The Philadelphia Flyers will be taking on the Boston Bruins at the Wells Fargo Center this Saturday afternoon. The local team will be hitting the ice and trying to notch another win in their belts to stabilize their shaky season.

14. South Street Winter Wonderland  

Where: 200 Pine St.
When: Saturday, December 2nd & Sunday, December 3rd

South Street will become a Winter Wonderland this weekend. This Saturday begin with a commercial and artistic bonanza. Businesses and vendors will begin their storefront decoration challenge. This Sunday the challenge will continue and there will be a Christmas tree lighting. CBS 3 and Santa Claus will be on location to ring in the holiday season. This is a free event.

15. Greensgrow Farms Holiday Bazaar

Where: Greensgrow Farms, 2501 E. Cumberland St.
When: Saturday, December 2nd & Sunday, December 3rd

Greensgrow Farms continues its Holiday Bazaar this Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy local crafters and farmers at this outdoor mercantile event. Several handmade gifts, antiques, collectibles, candles, jewelry, and produce will be up for sale. Whether you’re looking for special ceramics or herbs, this vendors hub has it all.

16. Deck the Alley

Where: Elfreth’s Alley Museum House, 124 Elfreth’s Alley
When: Saturday, December 2nd, 3PM-7PM

Historical avenue Elfreth’s Alley will be transformed for the merry holiday. This Saturday evening join Santa Claus, colonial dressed carolers, traditional loom weavers, and more at this treasured location. There will be twinkling holiday lights and plenty of artistic pieces up for sale within the museum store.

17. 76ers vs. Pistons

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 s. Broad St.
When: Saturday, December 2nd, 7:30PM

The Philadelphia 76ers will be taking on the Detroit Pistons this Friday night. The Eastern Conference opponent will be another good test for the Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and J.J. Reddick led team. Come to the Wells Fargo Center to see some of the best young talent the NBA has to offer.

18. PAFA Clover Market

Where: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 118 N. Broad St.
When: Sunday, December 3rd, 11AM-5PM

The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) will be hosting a collective shopping experience this Sunday. Gifted: A Handmade Holiday Market will showcase the various works of 75 specially picked artisans. These are one-of-a-kind and handmade pieces that make great sentimental gifts during the holiday season.

19. Museum Sundays

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy and Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway
When: Sunday, December 3rd, 10AM-5PM

The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Barnes Foundation will be having their monthly pay-what-you-wish and free admission Sundays this weekend. Come see some of the biggest names in art at these globally and world-renowned institutions. There are several intriguing exhibits at each structure that all art lovers need to see.

20. Jack Daniel’s Hot Toddy 5K

Where: XFINITY Live! 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Sunday, December 3rd, 10:30AM-2PM

XFINITY Live! will be hosting their annual seasonal race and drinking event this Sunday. The Jack Daniel’s Hot Toddy and 5K will give contestants a free cotton race shirt, a drinking mug, and one free Hot Toddy made with your choice of  Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey or Jack Daniel’s Original No 7. There will be a pre-race stretch hosted by Sweat Fitness and a post-race party at XFINITY Live! which includes dink specials and entertainment.
