What’s happening in Philly this weekend: May 25-27

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and cultural places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend 

1. Memorial Day Weekend

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, May 25th-Monday, May 28th

It’s Memorial Day Weekend in Philadephia! Several hotspots and frequented destinations will be flourishing with celebrations over the next few days.  Longwood Gardens will be having a tremendous fireworks display, institutions like the National Constitution Center and the Museum of the American Revolution will be hosting events. For something fun and unconventional, the arcade hub Barcade will be hosting a Barcade Family Day this Sunday.

2. Sail Philadelphia 

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Monday, May 28th

Sail Philadelphia 2018 features an assembly of tremendous and historic ships flooding the Delaware Waterfront. Ships from national and international waters are hosting a festival weekend full of live performers, food, music, beer gardens, and family-friendly activities.

3. Phillies Weekend

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way
When: Friday, May 25th-Sunday, May 27th

The Philadelphia Phillies will be taking on the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend in a three-game series. This Saturday there will be children 14 and under celebrations and Sunday, there will be a First Responders Day promotion. Come to the ballpark and watch this NL East vs. AL East showdown.

4. Fourth Friday on Fabric Row

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, May 25th, 5PM-9PM

Fabric Row is a scintillating independent shopping strip in the city. Several art houses, collectives, fabric shops will be having sales and deals.  Stop by Little Moon + Arrow, Cactus Collective, Fabriq, Paradigm Gallery + Studio, and others to shop and browse.

5. Devon Horse Show and Country Fair

Where: 23 Dorset Rd. Devon, PA
When: Thursday, May 24th-Sunday, June 3rd

The Devon Horse Show was created in 1896. what started as a one-day competition and showcase is now a  blowout equestrian extravaganza vent that draws in thousands each year. Highlighting the Philadelphia Mainline, this event will have several activities for the entire family.

6. Big Apple Circus

Where: Philadelphia Mills, 1455 Franklin Mills Cir.
When: Runs through Sunday, June 24th

A feat of acrobatics and skill will be coming to Philadelphia for an entire month. The Big Apple Circus will be at Philadelphia Mills to bring the cheers and feats of the circus world to your doorstep. There will be live animals, sky-high daredevils, high wires, and so many more entertaining options for the entire family.

7. Photo Pop Philly

Where: Philadelphia Building, 1315 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Wednesday, July 4th

Photo Pop Philly is an amazing new and interactive pop-up in which guests can walk through five distinct rooms fill with artistic displays. The curated exhibition is filled with many local artists, has selfie-worthy highlights, murals, and plenty of spots for you to take photos at.

8. Twilight in the Gardens

Where: Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, 1020 South St.
When: Friday, May 25th, 7PM-10PM

This Friday brings the second installment of the Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens series Twilight in the Gardens. Bring your food and drinks to this artistic space and take in the sights and sounds. There will be live music and hands-on artistic demonstrations.

9. Historic Philadelphia Nights 

Where: Independence Hall, 599 Market St.
When: Season runs through Saturday, October 20th

Philadelphia is taking you back to 1776 with the return of Independence After Hours.  Whether you’re having a historic meat at City Tavern or eavesdropping on Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin this immersive tour is a one-of-a-kind experience. For those looking for libations and colonial pub crawl, the Tippler’s Tour of old taverns has also returned.

10. Philadelphia Tango Festival

Where: Lithuanian Music Hall Association, 2715 E. Allegheny Ave.
When: Friday, May 25th-Monday, May 28th

This weekend, come out to the Lithuanian Music Hall for dazzling rhythm and music. The 8th Annual Philly Tango Festival will feature live music, DJs, stunning performances, parties, instructionals, food, drinks, and more.

11. Camelot

Where: Act II Playhouse,  56 E Butler Ave.  Ambler, PA
When: Runs through Sunday, June 24th

Extended by popular demand, ACT II Playhouse’s production of Camelot is packed with talented performers and the thrills. Come see the wonderful tale of King Arthur, Guenevere, Lancelot, and the Knights of the Round Table brought to life like you’ve never seen before.

12. Donnell Rawlings

Where: Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St.
When: Thursday, May 24th-Sunday, May 27th

The Helium Comedy Club will be welcoming this Chappelle’s Show, Guy Code, Chelsea Lately,  and Adult Swim alum to their stage this Memorial Day Weekend.  Donnell Rawlings hilarious standup act will be having you laugh the night away. Check out any of his dates during his four-night.

13. Khalid 

Where: Festival Pier, 601 N Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, May 25th, 8PM

It appears that the fates have aligned to give us only one sunny day this long weekend. What better place to take in the rays than the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing? R&B and alternative act Khalid will be performing in front of hundreds of fans at this open-air space. Bring your friends out to see the “Location” singer this Friday night.

14. Xtreme Bugs at the Academy of Natural Sciences

Where: The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Runs through Saturday, January 19th

This weekend is the Xtreme Bugs opening weekend at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. The institution will be crawling and fluttering with over 20 gigantic insects of all colors, shapes, and sizes. These interactive animatronics structures are a sight to behold. Come see these critters behaviors,  be educated on the life of these amazing creatures, play games, and see several live insects on the premises.

15. Morris Arboretum Garden Railway

Where: Morris Arboretum, 100 E. Northwestern Ave.
When: Runs through Monday, October 8th

The Morris Arboretum Garden Railway opens for the season this weekend. The quarter-mile track features seven loops and tunnels.  Come walks under the trestle bridge as the cable cars whiz by. This is a wonderful addition to the gardens at the Morris Arboretum each year.

16. Hoagie Nation Festival

Where: Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, 601 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, May 26th, 3PM

The Festival Pier will is making a double dip on this week’s list. This Saturday is the 2018 Hoagie Nation Festival. The music of Hall & Oates, Train, Fitz and the Tantrums, and more will be rocking the waterways this Saturday night. There will be a pre-party at the Fillmore this Friday night as well.

17. Comcast NBCUniversal Memorial Salute 

Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, May 26th, 7PM

The Philly POPS will be bringing the Memorial Day splendor this Saturday evening. The free concert merely requires a registration. You’ll be able to hear and see the wonders of talented musicians and vocalists. The concert is dedicated to “Honoring our nation’s traditions, values, and commitment to service”.

18. Laura Veirs

Where: Bootle & Saddle, 1131 S Broad St.
When: Saturday, May 26th, 8PM

When Laura Veirs released The Lookout in April, it was the Colorado singer-songwriter’s first solo product in five years. Featuring guest vocals from Sufjan Stevens and Jim James, the album was heralded as “deeply moving and satisfying” by The Guardian and received an outpouring of acclaim. This Saturday night brings her set to Boot & saddle to serenade the Philly audience.

19. Fireworks at Penn’s Landing

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, May 26th, 9PM

Is there any self-respecting American celebration that doesn’t end in fireworks? This weekend Penn’s Landing has you covered. As a part of Sail Philadelphia, this Saturday’s free Waterfront Festival will include live jazz, family activities, and sensational fireworks overlooking the water.

20. Memorial Day Weekend Parties 

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, May 25th-Monday, May 28th

Let’s face it, with the weekend getting the boost of an extra day, the allure of dancing the night away is at an all-time high. Philadelphia will be offering some intriguing events for all you partygoers out there. Silent Philly will be throwing a party at The Schmidt’s Commons, Warmdaddy’s will be hosting a rooftop day party, and more. Stop by the Tiki Party at Howl at the Moon, Retox Day PartyStratus Rooftop LoungeNOTO Philadelphia, and  Vesper Sporting Club for a good time.
