1. Philadelphia Film Festival

When: Runs through Sunday, October 28th

The 27th Annual Philadelphia Film Festival kicks off this week. The film showcase will have many top-tier selections that have been buzzing through the movie festival cycle this season. Come see the latest works from stars like Julia Roberts, Berry Jenkins, Kevin Hart, Jake Gyllenhaal, fantastic shorts and documentaries, and more.

2. Taste! Philadelphia

LOCATION CHANGE – Taste! Philadelphia NOW at Expo Center at Oaks

Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Ave. Oaks, PA
When: Friday, October 19th-Sunday, October 21st

This weekend the TASTE! Philadelphia Festival of Food, Wine & Spirits 2018 will be at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. Plently of local celebrities will be on hand for an abundance of food, wine, cocktails, and so much more.

3. Dilworth Park Octoberfest

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St.
When: Friday, October 19th-Sunday, October 21st

Dilworth Park is always buzzing with live music, food, fountains, events, and excitement. This weekend, the park will be hosting an Octoberfest celebration. Come out for the drinks, games, brews, activities, cuisine, and fun.

4. Made in Philadelphia Fall Market

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St.
When: Friday, October 19th-Sunday, October 21st

Made In Philadelphia Fall Market will be kicking off this Friday. Similar to the Rittenhouse Fine Crafts Market, this vendor extravaganza will have everything from jewelry, crafts, art,  and home furnishes all up for sale around City Hall.

5. Fabulous Fashion: From Dior’s New Look to Now 

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Runs through Sunday, March 3rd

The Philadelphia Museum of art will be opening a new exhibition this week. Fabulous Fashion: From Dior’s New Look to Now will bring to life the regal gown, glamours dresses, contemporary pieces, and several other masterpieces in this costume collection. Come see how famed, classic, and modern designers used shapes, metallics, draping, patterns, and more to make bold and elegant statements.

6. Weekend at the African American Museum in Philadelphia

When: Friday, October 19th-Sunday, October 21st

There are always several amazing events at the African American Museum in Philadelphia each day. The stunning exhibition Cotton: The Soft, Dangerous Beauty of the Past continues to be on display through January 2019. This Sunday there will be an AAMP Commune: Spirit featuring Ruth Naomi Floyd event.  Ruth Naomi Floyd is a world-famous jazz composer, singer, and artist. Floyd will be performing some of her original works and holding a conversation on “Spirit”.

7. Harry Potter Weekend in Chestnut Hill

When: Friday, October 19th-Saturday, October 20th

Each year Chestnut Hill gets taken over by aspiring wizards and Quidditch players. The 2018 Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Festival & Quidditch Tournament begins this Friday. There will be plenty of activities including a Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament, a costume contest, a Woodmere Art Museum Straw Maze, a Brews & Broomsticks Pub Crawl, and more at this magical gathering.

8. Moby Dick Reading Marathon

Where: Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, October 19th-Saturday, October 20th

I’m getting flashbacks to my freshman year teacher climbing desks and pretending to be Captain Ahab as I type this. The Rosenbach will be presenting a unique and annual reading of the famed novel at the Independence Seaport Museum this weekend. Literature lovers come out for the theatrics of this great work, tremendous orators, a chowder tasting, and more.

9. Yale vs. Penn

Where: Franklin Field, 235 South 33rd St.
When: Friday, October 19th, 7PM

These two esteemed Universities have played each other on the gridiron countless times. But if you want to be particular, the storied rivalry will have its 86th meeting this Friday night. Yale is the defending Ivy League Champion. Penn (4-1) will look to notch their 5th win of the season.

10. Mitski

When: Friday, October 19th, 8:30PM

Singer-songwriter and musician Mitski has released two celebrated and critically-acclaimed projects in the last two years. Puberty 2 and Be the Cowboy has caught the attention of masses for their sound, musical precision, and palate of emotional lyrics. Come see this surging at Union Transfer this Friday night where she’ll belt out tracks from any of her 5 studio projects.

11. Chvrches

Owners of a new 2018 release, Chvrches, will be performing at North Seventh (former Electric Factory) this Friday night. They recently released their third studio album Love Is Dead in September. The Glasgow synth-pop trio will be igniting the crowd starting at 8:30 pm.

12. George Lopez

When: Friday, October 19th, 8PM

Famed comedian, actor, and late-night TV personality will be performing at SugarHouse Casino this Friday night. Lopez’s new feature film River Runs Red alongside Taye Diggs and John Cusack will come out later this year. If you’re looking for a good night of laughs and punchy storytelling get yourself a ticket.

13. Nikki Glaser

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Through Saturday, October 20th

Punch Line Philly will be the place to be for all the laughs this weekend. Nikki Glaser has had several Comedy Central stand up productions. She also co-hosted an MTV late-night talk show called Nikki and Sara LIVE. Come see the hilarious comedian on the center stage.

14. The British Are Coming 

Where: Museum of the American Revolution, 101 S. 3rd St.
When: Saturday, October 20th-Sunday, October 21st

This is Occupied Philadelphia at the Museum of the American Revolution. The festival recreates Fall 1777 when the British army captured and occupied the city of Philadelphia. There will be soldiers, spies, a mercantile, villagers, food, libations, and more all weekend.

15. Cinncinati vs. Temple

When: Saturday, October 20th, 12PM

The Temple University Owls will be taking on the Cincinnati Bearcats this Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field. The 4-3 program will be ready for the challenge of their American Athletic Conference foes in this high noon matchup. Come out and cheer on this team that has been flawless in conference play.

16. Pour The Core: Hard Cider Festival

Sample over 75 ciders at Pour The Core: Hard Cider Festival this Saturday. There will be several local and national brands at this amazing seasonal brewing festival. There will be a donut eating contest, VIP experiences, and more.

17. Devils vs. Flyers

When: Saturday, October 20th, 1PM

The Philadelphia Flyers will be hosting the New Jersey Devils in their third home game of the season at Wells Fargo Center. Come get a taste of the season to come with some of the best fans in sports. The arena will be rocking as the Flyers look to extend their record and get their third win of the newly unfolding season.

18. Magic vs. 76ers

When: Saturday, October 20th, 7:30PM

The Philadelphia 76ers will be taking over the Wells Fargo Center this Saturday as well.  The Sixers second home game of the new season will be against none other than Eastern Conference and divisional foes, the Orlando Magic. All the Philadelphia fans will be in the building to cheer on their team.

19. Jessie J

UK soul-pop singer Jessie J brings her The R.O.S.E. Tour to Philadelphia this Saturday night. With charming and talented singer Ro James as the opening act, this sultry tour will surely be a crowd pleaser. All R&B fans come out to North Seventh this Saturday night.

20. Tank and The Bangas & Big Freedia

R&B and Soul group Tank and The Bangas will be serenading the TLA crowd this Saturday night along with Hip-Hop act Big Freedia. The Head Banga Tour will be a surge from splendid vocals and musicianship to a high-energy dance-off.

21. AIDS Walk Philly

When: Sunday, October 21st, 8AM

Philadelphians are always extending themselves for a great cause. This Sunday is no different.  The 32nd Annual Philadelphia AIDS 5k and Walk will be taking place in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum. This charitable run raises funds and awareness for one of the most devastating viruses plaguing the globe.

22. Berthe Morisot: Woman Impressionist 

Where: Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Runs through Saturday, January 19th

The Barnes Foundation will be opening a new exhibit this week. Berthe Morisot: Woman Impressionist features the work of Berthe Morisot. The famed impressionist worked alongside Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. This will be a great opportunity to see stellar works that illustrate modernity, gardens, family life, and more.

23. Panthers vs. Eagles

When: Sunday, October 21, 1PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are currently .500 with a (3-3) record. This Sunday they’ll take on a familiar foe in Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. The Linc will be rocking as Carson Wentz, Alshon Jeffrey, Zach Ertz, and the defense seek to tackle another win.

24. Red Bulls vs. Union

The Philadelphia Union will be taking on the New York Red Bulls this Sunday afternoon. Talen Energy Stadium will be filled with thunderous soccer fans and Union faithful. Come watch the home team take on this regional and Eastern Conference rival.

25. Ira Glass

When: 5

The public radio act Ira glass will be coming to the Merriam Theater this Sunday afternoon. Seven Things I’ve Learned: An Evening with Ira Glass will feature this “This American Life” creator and producer. Come out for a night of great storytelling and more.

26. Good Charlotte

Radio 104.5 presents Good Charlotte this Sunday as The Fillmore Philadelphia. In September of this year, the rock band released their seventh studio album Generation Rx. Rock fans will come out in masses to this Fishtown convert venue and bar.
