Events Running Through the Weekend

1. The Carole King Musical

Where: Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St.
When: Runs through Sunday, January 20th

The musical encircling the chart-topping music legend Carole King coming to the Academy of Music for the next two weeks. “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend,” and other songs will be highlighted on the stage by phenomenal talents.

2. 2019 Philly Home Show

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Friday, January 11th-Sunday, January 13th and Friday, January 18th-Sunday, January 20th

This is the 38th year of the annual this show representing all things in your household. The massive event features more than 225 service professionals and exhibitors. Don’t miss your chance to obtain advice from favorite TV home show experts and learn new project skills in hands-on workshops.

3. The Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo

Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Ave. Oaks, PA
When: Friday, January 11th-Sunday, January 13th

The 2019 Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo is gonna be in the area all weekend long. There will be pet centric vendors, suppliers, demonstrators, workshops, and more. This pet-lovers dream offers up a great day for your entire family, including your most beloved treasure. Bring your pet out for some fun and games.

4. Friday Night at the Museum

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, January 11th, 5PM-8:45PM

The Philadelphia Museum of Art holds a special happy hour series each Friday. The gathering uniquely blends arts and music in this special clash of culture. Each week there’s small bites, beverages, cocktails, special gallery access, and live music. This week features Odean Pope Quartet performing original compositions as well as songs by Monk and Coltrane.

5. Hawks vs. 76ers

Where: Wells Fargo Center. 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, January 11th, 7PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are surging. The team returns to the Wells Fargo Center this Friday when they take on the Atlanta Hawks. This Eastern Conference showdown will put one of the best teams up against one the worst. Emiid, Simmons, Butler, and company will have the arena rocking.

6. Amir K

AMIR K

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Runs through Saturday, January 12th

Each week Punch Line Philly delivers great stand-up shows and crowd-pleasing events. This week CW’s MadTV star Amir K. will be doing at a three-night residency at the comedy house. This seasoned talent in comedy will have you laughing all night.

7. Good Good Comedy Theatre Weekend

Good Good presents Sydnee Washington (Comedy Central, MTV)

Where: Good Good Comedy Theatre, 215 N. 11st.
When: Friday, January 11-Sunday, January 13th

The Goo Good Comedy Theatre will be filled with laughter as well this weekend with several hilarious shows. Friday night includes the cross-cultural event ¿Cómo Se Dice…? and Weeding Out The Stoned where the audience clues into which comedian is under the influence. Saturday Synee Washington will take over the laugh house. The Good Good Hour will be helmed by Hannah Trav this Sunday.

8. Silent Secret Waterfalls at the Barnes Foundation

Where: Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Runs through Sunday, November 17th

An installation of 11 new paintings will be filling the Barnes Foundation through the end of the year. Silent Secret Waterfalls: The Barnes Series, by Pat Steir features 11 seven-foot-tall oil-on-canvas paintings that highlight her performative and choreographed style of painting. The resulting works work “elegantly suggest the movement of wind and water.”

9. 40 Winks at Penn Museum

When: Friday, January 11th-Saturday, January 12th

This fun and captivating museum event bring out tons of families every time. 40 Winks at Penn Museum offers an engaging, fun, and informative sleepover at one of the best institutes in the city. There will be hands-on games, crafts, a scavenger hunt, and a flashlight expedition through the galleries.

10. The Munch Around the Market Scavenger Hunt

Watson Adventures’ The Munch Around the Market Scavenger Hunt offers you the opportunity to eat your way through Philly this Saturday. Reading Terminal Market will host this amazing foodie event that will have munch challenges, photos stations, and plenty of food.

11. Winterfest Live!

Where: XFINITY Live!, 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, January 12th, 2PM-6PM

XFINITY Live! will be hosting a tasting event like no other this weekend. Winterfest Live! is an ultimate craft beer and music festival. The annual drinking soiree has tons of local and international brews. There will be food available, live music and DJs, and drink specials.

12. Ardmore Winter Beer Festival

When: Saturday, January 12th, 1PM-5PM

This Saturday is the 2019 Armdore Winter Beer Festival. There will be over 50 craft samples from Yards, Goose Island, Terrapin, and more. There will also be plenty of food vendors, live music, and more. If you’re looking for a great time in orbit of the city, this event is for you.

13. Noname

When: Saturday, January 12th, 8:30PM

Chicago rapper and poet Noname put out one of the most critically-acclaimed Hip-Hop albums of 2018. El Hunt of NME described Room 25 as “flawless…smartly constructed and laced with intricate subtlety.” Rolling Stone declared Noname as”One of the Best Rappers Alive.” This Saturday, the City of Brotherly Love will get their chance to see her in action.

13. The Revivalists

The Revivalists

Where: The Met Philadelphia, 858 N Broad St.
When: Saturday, January 12th, 8PM

New Orleans alternative rockers The Revivalists will be performing at The Met Philadelphia this Saturday night. The chart-toppers released their fourth studio album Take Good Care in November 2018. The single “All My Friends” went to No. 1 on the Adult Alternative radio chart at Billboard. Come see this energetic and band with a signature sound this weekend.

14. Sensory-Friendly Morning at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Sunday, January 13th, 9AM-10:30AM

Focusing on guests with special needs, this Sunday will be a sensory-friendly day at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Specially designed for children on the autism spectrum or who have other sensory sensitivities, this event will have tremendous activities and programming for the whole family.

16. Center City Restaurant Week Begins

Where: Various locations
When: Sunday, January 13th-Friday, January 25th

To culinary fans delight, Center City Restaurant Week begins this Sunday. Several participating restaurants in the city will be featuring three-course lunches and dinners for $20 and $35. Over 52 restaurants in total will be cooking up fantastic, savory, and invigorating meal and drink menus.

17. A Snowy Bowie Skate

Where: Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, January 13th, 12PM-6AM

Philly Loves Bowie week continues to be a highlight of the area. The Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest will be getting into the Starman mood with an all-Bowie skate night this Sunday. There will be a movie screening, David Bowie music blasting in the speakers, face painting, and more.

18. Philadelphia Chamber Music Society

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S Broad St.
When: Sunday, January 13th, 3PM

Those looking for refined tunes and classical music, come out to the Kimmel Center this Sunday. The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society presents the Ying Quartet with Kim Kashkashian on viola and Marcy Rosen playing cello. This will be a night of exquisite music in the Perelman Theater.
