THE PLAYERS has been a tournament that has taken out some of the best golfers in the world. TPC Sawgrass has lived up to the hype and has challenged the entire field. Multiple players have even withdrawn from Round 1. It will be an exciting Sunday … so who will win THE PLAYERS Championship?
The past few rounds have lead to suspensions due to darkness. This has lead to limited time to explain why I would wager on certain round matchups. We were fortunate enough to get a full round in and I have a play that you will not want to miss out on! If you follow @chrisebomb or @ottmatchups on twitter, you would have seen me post Scott Piercy -136 vs Cameron Percy. This has lead to my 3rd straight matchup winner for the PGA. Lets make it four in a row with this play!
Jason Day (-122) vs. Corey Conners
If Jason Day was not having a horrible week of putting, people would be bringing up his name for possible contention in this star-studded tournament. Day ranks third in the entire field in SG:T2G. This is a big accomplishment for such a difficult course! He has gained multiple strokes in SG:OTT, SG:APP, and SG:ARG. He leads the field in SG:OTT (two strokes better than mighty Bryson) and sixth in the field in SG: Around-the-green.
Day is matched up against a golfer that shined last tournament in Corey Conners. They are both tied at -4, but that won’t last for long. Conners has mediocre strokes gained numbers. The only stat he is better than Day in is SG:putting. I am okay with that! The main picture of this match-up is the SG: Tee-to-green. Day has a +9.67 SG:T2G and Conners has a +2.94 SG:T2G.
Day is nearly seven strokes better than Conners, and it should honestly be more. I can’t imagine Day’s putter being any worse than it has been, so I will take him to finish the job against Conners and cash us another match-up play!
