Cornerback JaCorey Shepherd, who many believed to be Brandon Boykin’s replacement in the Eagles defense this season, has torn his ACL and will be out the entire 2015 season. Here’s the video of the injury, which we posted in today’s Morning Brew.

Shepherd, a sixth-round pick who was competing for the team’s nickelback job and performing well throughout camp, underwent an MRI that confirmed the team’s fears of a ligament tear.
The injury occurred when Shepherd collided with running back Darren Sproles along the left sideline during drills. Shepherd is the second player lost prematurely because of a knee ligament injury. Outside linebacker Travis Long, who was coming back from an ACL tear suffered in last year’s preseason finale, re-tore the same ligament last week.
There will be debate as to how important this injury is for the Eagles’ defense. Shepherd was reportedly the frontrunner to replace Brandon Boykin’s slot position in the defensive backfield, but there was also talk of having Nolan Carroll and Eric Rowe put in that position. It’s making everyone second guess the Boykin trade.
