Boston Police Update on the Jahlil Okafor Fight Incident

Earlier today, ESPN reported that Boston police would not be investigating the Jahlil Okafor fight incident that happened outside a bar on Wednesday night. The reason they would not be investigating is because the victim hadn’t come forward yet to file a police report, and police said unless they did, they wouldn’t conduct an investigation despite the video surfacing.

Well, the victim has come forward and filed a police report this morning, alleging Okafor tried to get a few of his female friends’ phone numbers, when a verbal altercation began.

BPD Investigating Incident Involving Philadelphia 76ers Center Jahlil Okafor: At about 11:00am, on Friday, November 27, 2015, an individual walked into District D-4 (South End) to file a police report stating that he was the victim of an Assault & Battery which took place the evening before outside the Storyville Nightclub located at 90 Exeter Street in Boston. According to the victim, the incident occurred at about 2:00am, on Thursday, November 26, 2015, as people were exiting the nightclub. Victim states that two black males, one believed to be Okafor, approached his group of friends and quickly began talking to a few of his female friends in an effort obtain their phone numbers. According to the victim, when his female companions refused their advances, a verbal altercation ensued between him and the suspect. During the argument, the male victim states that Okafor attempted to charge him but was momentarily restrained by another individual. Eventually, however, the victim states that Okafor broke free and began pushing and punching him. Victim further states that the suspect struck him with a closed fist and knocked him to the ground. Victim stated he sustained a cut above his eye which later required stitches. Detectives assigned to District D-4 are actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (617) 343-5619. No charges have been filed at this time.

If the police report is accurate, and Okafor and his teammate [who we still don’t know who it was] tried to woo those women away from the men, that does not speak well at all for Okafor. Earlier today, he admitted he made a stupid mistake and he shouldn’t have let the people heckling him get to him. So, there’s obviously two sides to this story. And it’s just beginning.
