What’s happening in Philly this weekend: Aug. 23-25

1. Closing Soon: AMALUNA

Cirque Du Soleil: AMALUNA will be ending its run weekend. The amazing heights and tremendous athleticism is something you shouldn’t miss. Come get swept away and captivated by spectacular displays and wonder that Cirque Du Soleil is known for while you still have a chance.

2. Keystone Comic Con

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center | 1101 Arch St
When: Runs through Sunday, August 25

Cosplay, comics, and several genres will be on full display this weekend at Keystone Comic Con. Collectors, celebrities, and fans alike will all be out in droves for this annual event. Among the guests will be, new Sony signee, Spiderman‘s Tom Holland, some cast members from Harry Potter, and more.

3. Friday Nights at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art | 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, August 23 | 5 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Each Friday, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has a weekly Final Fridays series each week. The event merges music, art, cocktails, small plates, culture, and crafts. This Friday, Bassist Kevin MacConnell and pianist Dave Posmontier, will be pulling off wonderful performances.

4. Twilight in the Gardens

Where: Philadelphia Magic Gardens | 1020 South St
When: Friday, August 23 | 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Philadelphia Magic Gardens continues its Twilight in the Gardens multi-sensory event. It’s a byo (bring your own) food, drinks, blankets, and friends sensation. Participants experience engaging and wonderful level escapism on this fun-filled musical and craft night. Enjoy live and magnificent performances and view various works of art.

5. Smooth Jazz Summer Nights

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing | 101 S Christopher Columbus Blvd
When:  Friday, August 23 | 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Each Friday, through the month of August, the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing has been filled with wonderful live music. Smooth Jazz Summer Nights is a free outdoor concert series highlighting jazz and blues musicians. This Friday night renowned R&B bassist Michael Manson will be performing.

6. Dinos After Dark 

Where: The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University | 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway
When: Friday, August 23 | 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The fourth Friday of the month transitions The Academy of Natural Sciences into an after-hours fun after-hours hangout. The museum will give you the chance to meet the live animals that reside in the institution, offers gallery access, and will have plenty of activities. Stop by the indoor beer garden before you walk around this invigorating museum.

7. Creed II

When: Friday, August 23 | 8 p.m.

The Summer rays are still basking the area with warmth. There are several outdoor activities that sweep through the area through these months of glorious weather. Free movie screenings are one of the best pop up attractions the city has to offer. Creed II will be screened at Clark Park this Friday night. The bring-your-own-blanket event will have snacks and more.

8. Tommy Davidson

Where: Punch Line Philly | 33 E. Laurel St
When: Runs through Saturday, August 24

Punch Line Philly will be hosting Tommy Davidson on its popular stage this week. The well-known and classic comedian and actor has starred in several productions such as In Living Color, Strictly Business, The Proud Family, and plenty others. He’ll be using his signature persona, stage presence, and standup to captivate the audience.

9. Tame Impala

When: Friday, August 23 | 8 p.m.

XPN Welcomes Tame Impala to The MannCenter this Friday night. Velvet Negroni will open up for the psychedelic pop and rock group. Come to the beautiful amphitheater “to hear “Let It Happen” and other top tracks by the amazing band.

10. Rascal Flatts

Where: BB&T Pavillion | 1 Harbour Blvd | Camden, NJ
When: Friday, August 23 | 7 p.m.

Country stars and Grammy winners Rascal Flatts will be on the Camden Waterfront this Friday night. The chart-topping trio will be pulling out all of the stops during their open-air takeover. The group has the most Billboard 200 number-one albums of any group since 2000 and will be playing many of the anthems all night long.

11. Dog Day of Summer

Where: Levering Lot | 107 Levering St
When: Saturday, August 24 | 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For the sixth straight year, the Dog Days of Summer party will be in the city. The canine-friendly event will be taking place in Manayunk.  There will be pay-as-you-go food and cocktails, dog washes, pup crawls, and more.

12. Philadelphia Obon Festival

Where: Shofuso Japanese House and Garden | Lansdowne Drive & Horticultural Drive 
When: Saturday, August 24 | 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Shofuso Japanese House and Garden will be hosting the 7th Annual Obon Festival this Saturday afternoon. The festival will be heralding the Japanese ritual of Obon. There will be live music, merchants, arts and crafts, and plenty of activities.  There will also be a traditional “bon” dance performed before the closing ceremonies.

13. Philly’s SENSORiUM Festival

When: Saturday, August 24 | 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SENSORiUM 2019  expects over 2,000 attendees and includes multiple art galleries, unique installations, and some of the area’s finest craft and food vendors including Old City’s Ruckus Gallery. Philly staples, Yards Brewing, Federal Donuts, Han Dynasty, and La Colombe, and others will have vendors on locations. There will be a countless number of talent acts hitting the stage. 14. Fonthill Castle Beer Fest

Where: Fonthill Castle | 525 E. Court St | Doylestown, PA
When: Saturday, August 24 | 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Head on over to Fonthill Castle in Doylestown for a tremendous day of fun and plenty of brews. This Saturday is the annual Fonthill Castle Beer Fest. There will be over 35 local and regional breweries represented, live musical entertainment, and light fare and small plates. General admission gets you unlimited samplings and there is also a VIP option.

15. Carlos Santana

When: Saturday, August 24 | 7 p.m.

Carlos Santana will be playing at the BB&T Pavillion this Saturday night. The ten-time Grammy winner and three-time Latin Grammy winner will be strumming the night away to a selection of his enticing songs to a packed theater.

16. Nelly

When: Saturday, August 24 | 9 p.m.

Nelly will be doing a live outdoor concert at XFINITY Live! this Saturday night. There will be VIP areas, food, drink specials, and more at this rain or shine soiree. Afterward, Nelly will be heading over to NOTO Philadelphia for a blowout party at the trendy venue.

17. Union vs D.C. United

When: Saturday, August 24 | 7:30 p.m.

The Philadelphia Union will be trying to protect their home turf this Saturday night when they take on the D.C. United. Trying to get the third victory in the month, the squad will look to have Talen Energy Stadium rocking under the lights. Come out for a night of high energy athleticism.

18. Pop Up Plays 

Where: Spruce Street Harbor Park | 301 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, August 25 | 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Bring your family out to Pop Up Play each Sunday at Spruce Street Harbor Park. This interactive playtime will be guiding your kids through the themes of music, art, science, history, physics, and more. There will be plenty of games and smiles at this active event.

19. 28th Annual Ukranian Folk Festival

Where: Ukrainian American Sports Center | 1 Lower State Rd | North Wales, PA
When: Sunday, August 25 | 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This free Ukrainian cultural enthralling event brings together people of great history. There will be dazzling Ukrainian folk art, music, dance, and food. This unification spectacular will have children’s areas, with face painting and games, and multiple vendors. The festival is $15 for adults and $10 for students and children under the age of 15.
