Catching up with the Birds

A lot of Eagles content gets published each day, so here’s a recap of your Eagles news from this past week.

This was the least anticipated Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp that I can remember in a while.

All of the attention was focused on Ben Simmons and the Summer League earlier this month, but that’s over with now and Eagles football still isn’t getting a lot of buzz. Chip Kelly and all the aura and intrigue are gone, although the Eagles still had a busy offseason. Howie Roseman spent $280 million and traded up twice in the NFL Draft to land a potential franchise quarterback in Carson Wentz.

We love football in Philly, what’s the deal?

I do think there’d be more intrigue if Wentz was playing. The perception is that it’s basically a red shirt year for him and the Eagles will go through some growing pains during Doug Pederson’s first season as a head coach. Pederson hasn’t been a charismatic coach thus far either, the complete opposite of what Kelly brought. Not that it’s a bad thing.

The next Eagles open practice is on August 14th, let’s see some more people there. And don’t worry, I fully expect the fans will show up for the regular season games and sell out Lincoln Financial Field every single week.

On to the links:

A lot of news this week and let’s start with Brian Dawkins coming back home, returning to the Eagles to join the scouting staff. He’s very excited about the opportunity.

Jalen Mills has been the talk of Training Camp thus far, beginning Monday when he showed up to the NovaCare Complex with shiny green hair and a new nickname. Here’s some observations of Mills during day two of Training Camp. Pederson praised Mills on Wednesday and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz discussed what he’s looking for out of Mills with the pads now on.

Darren Sproles signed a one-year extension with the Eagles Friday and Pederson gushed about him during his presser later that day. The injury-prone Ryan Mathews will return to practice this week after hurting his ankle while working out. If Mathews were to miss some time this season due to injury, a lot might depend on fifth-round rookie Wendell Smallwood, who Pederson said might make an impact this season.

Jon Dorenbos made it to the semifinals of America’s Got Talent. He wowed the judges for a third time this past week.

Nigel Bradham was arrested in Florida after an alleged incident in Miami Beach over an umbrella. According to a report from NBC in Miami, Bradham allegedly assaulted an employee of the Hilton Bentley hotel last Thursday, and turned himself into police on Monday. He spoke for the first time about the incident on Thursday.

Doug Pederson > Chip Kelly, at least according to Jason Peters. The 12-year left tackle voiced his opinions on Pederson and Kelly Thursday, taking a lot of shots at his former coach. Peters believes Pederson is a lot more respectful of his veteran players.

ESPN NFL Insider John Clayton appeared on 97.5 The Fanatic Tuesday afternoon and stated that the Philadelphia Eagles might be interested in the recently re-instated Josh Gordon if the Cleveland Browns decide to trade him.

I listed which five Eagles I’m most excited to see this summer, check it out!
